NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTS NEW MEMBERS

 

Six students were inducted into the Brashear Chapter of National Honor Society on February 11.  The new members are ChaRae Cole, daughter of Ivan and Martha Cole; Stefanie McKim, daughter of Tom and Davena McKim; Tiffany Owen, daughter of Tim and Judy Owen; Brent Platz, son of Larry and Nancy Platz; Kellie Primmer, daughter of Tom and Colleen Primmer; and Cody Salter, son of Larry Salter and Dick and Kathy Roberts.

 

The NHS students would like to thank those who made their recent Valentine sales a success.  Proceeds from this fund raiser were used to pay for the NHS induction ceremony and will help defray the cost of the group's trip to The New Theatre Restaurant in Kansas City.

 

TIGER PRIDE

 

Congratulations to Christina Scudder—2nd Chair Clarinet, David Anderson—3rd Chair Trumpet, and Justin Hazen—2nd Chair Baritone for their selection to the Northeast Missouri District Junior High Honors Bands which performed February 21 in Centralia.

 

Several band students will represent Brashear in the 2004 Tri-County Conference Band performing on tour March 1.  They include Andrea Reeves—7th Chair Flute, Amanda Mills—3rd Chair Clarinet, Christina Scudder—4th Chair Clarinet, Amanda Powell—1st Chair Bass Clarinet, Kayla Moots—6th Chair Trombone, Seth Wheeler—2nd Chair Percussion, and Alexis Longano—4th Chair Percussion.

 

Twenty-four Brashear Band Students participated in the Central Methodist College Music Festival held February 27 on the CMC campus in Fayette.  Instrumental soloists included Amber Alexander—flute, Andrea Reeves—flute, Monika Shaver—flute, Marissa Longano—clarinet, Christina Scudder—clarinet, Amanda Powell—bass clarinet, Bridget Clarkson—alto saxophone, Tyler Horton—alto saxophone, Anthony Chambers—tenor saxophone, David Anderson—trumpet, Jacob Shipman—trumpet, Caroline Slavin—trumpet, Kayla Moots—trombone, Justin Hazen—baritone, Jacob Owen—tuba, Alexis Longano—snare drum and Seth Wheeler—snare drum.  Also participating was a flute trio including Amber Alexander, Andrea Reeves and Monika Shaver; a clarinet trio including Courtney Clarkson, Marissa Longano and Christina Scudder; a mixed woodwind trio including Amanda Mills—clarinet, Amanda Powell—bass clarinet and Andrea Reeves—flute; a trumpet quartet including David Anderson, Jacob Shipman, Caroline Slavin and Carmen Woods; a brass sextet including David Anderson—trumpet, Jacob Shipman—trumpet, Carmen Woods—trumpet, Kayla Moots—trombone, Justin Hazen—baritone and Jacob Owen—tuba; and a percussion ensemble including Tiffany Blake, Jeremy Clay, Alexis Longano, Michael McKim, Joshua Owen and Seth Wheeler.

 

Congratulations also goes to Josiah Belzer for earning honors at the North Shelby 7th and 8th Grade Academic Bowl Tournament held February 8.  Josiah scored an average of 56.7 points per game—the fifth highest personal score!

 

ACADEMIC BOWL SEASON BEGINS

 

Academic Bowl season begins on Monday, March 8.  We are scheduled to play 5 games at home.  Starting times vary so be sure to check the calendar.

 

Varsity team members this year include Danny Clarkson, Brooke Crandall, Holly Hazen, Alicia Longano, Jeremiah Osborn, Brent Platz, and Katie Thudium. 

 

Junior High members this year are Bridget Clarkson, Jeremy Clay, Tyler Killen, and Christina Scudder. 

 

Jenny Elsea and Kristin Osborn will be statisticians for both teams.

PTS would like to THANK everyone who helped out with concessions by working or providing desserts during the Brashear tournament.  They would also like to thank those who helped to make sure all shifts were covered.  Thanks for making this a success.

 

Get excited!!!  March 8th is the next PTS Meeting.  The program will feature line dancers from Mr. Wilburn’s elementary PE classes and Music Solos.  Be sure to drop by early and check out the Book Fair.

 

3 ON 3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

 

Brashear After Prom will be sponsoring a 3 on 3 basketball tournament on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the Brashear High School Gymnasium.  Divisions offered include both girls and boys 8 & Under, 10 & Under, 12 & Under, 14 & Under.  Coed teams must play in the boys division.  Tournament officials reserve the right to combine age divisions, if necessary.

 

Teams are guaranteed two games.  The cost is $45.00 per team.  The entry deadline is Monday, March 29, 2004.  Entry forms are available in the high school office.  All proceeds from the tournament will go to the Brashear After Prom.

 

Note:  After Prom will meet on March 23rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Learning Center to finalize plans for the 3 on 3 basketball tournament.

 

2004 BBSA SIGN-UPS

 

The Brashear Baseball/Softball Association is having sign-ups Monday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the PTS meeting in the high school gym and on Saturday, March 20 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the Keller Building in Brashear. 

 

Sign-up sheets are available in both the elementary and high school offices.  If you can not attend one of the sign-ups, please return your form to Karla Hettinger.

 

BREAKFAST/LUNCH MENU

 

Breakfast each day includes milk and juice.  The following items are offered daily for students to choose from in lieu of the main entrée: salad bar, yogurt or peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

 

March 1-5

Monday: Bagel/Popcorn chicken, green beans, cottage cheese, peaches, milk

Tuesday:  Biscuit & gravy/Grilled cheese, chips, baked beans, jello, milk

Wednesday: French toast sticks/Hamburger on bun, cheese slice, hash brown patty, cookie, milk

Thursday: Cereal/Mr. Ribb, potato casserole, mandarin oranges, brownie, milk

Friday: Blueberry muffin/Pizza, corn, lettuce, ice cream, milk

 

March 8-12

Monday: Omelet, toast/Creamy chicken bake, peas, fruit, chocolate pudding, milk

Tuesday: Waffle/Nacho pie, lettuce, fruit, cookie, milk

Wednesday: Bacon, hash brown patty/Sub sandwich, chips, strawberries, jello cake, milk

Thursday: Scrambled eggs, toast/Chicken patty, broccoli w/ cheese sauce, applesauce, cheesecake, milk

Friday: Cinnamon roll/Garlic cheese bread w/ marinara sauce, veggies & dip, fruit, cookie, milk
