The Adair County R-II School District has a long tradition of providing
quality education to the children of our district and we enjoy excellent
community support as evidenced by the strong parental and community
involvement. PTC, advisory committees for the school, Booster Club,
participation in evening educational activities, and support of the athletic
programs are just a few of the activities that show the deep-rooted support of
our patrons.
Our present high school building was built in 1963 and additions have
been made through the years in 1976 and 1991 and the new elementary addition in
2002 to develop into our present facility.
In the history of any building, there comes a time when further
investments in remodeling and repair improvements are needed to continue
addressing the future needs of our high school students.
The Adair County R-II School District Board of Education has voted to
place a $1,000,000 General Obligation Bond Issue on the ballot for the April 5,
2016 election. The proceeds from these
bonds are to be used for the purpose of providing funds for the replacement and
installation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning; the repair and
replacement of roofs and windows; improvements to exterior of the building; and
to the extent funds are available, the completion of other remodeling and
repair improvements to the existing facilities of the District. These priority building needs were
recommended to the Board of Education by architects and engineers after
inspection of our existing buildings. We are pleased to be able to present this
general obligation bond issue as one that does not require any increase in the
debt service levy above the current $.6511 per one hundred dollars of assessed
valuation.
The no levy increase bond issue is possible due to the conservative
projections of future growth in the District’s assessed valuation and the
assumption that the interest rates will remain at the current low levels.
Factors helping to make this no levy increase proposal feasible include the
prepayment of $85,000 principal on 2/16/2010, the refinancing of the Series
2005 Bonds, and the prepayment of $35,000 principal on 3/1/2014. Hence, it is
possible to set up the payments of principal and interest for the proposed
bonds in such a manner that the $.6511 debt service levy can be extended ten to
twelve years without needing to be increased.

6:00 p.m.; Author Night, March 21, 2016, at 5:30 p.m.; and on March 28, 2016, a
soup supper and building tours beginning at 6:00 p.m. Anyone interested in

Yearbook sales continue for the 68th edition of the BHS yearbook. Yearbooks purchased between March 1 and April 30 will be $25. Yearbooks purchased on May 1 through the end of the school year will be $30.

Congratulations to the following FBLA members for placing in the top five at the FBLA District contest held February 10 at The Crossing in Kirksville: Abi Kerby, Bailey Mihalovich and Sidney Sykes, 1st in Business Ethics performance team event; Leah Grissom, 1st in Introduction to Business Procedures; Abi Kerby, 2nd in Business Calculations and 2nd in Personal Finance; Megan McHenry, 2nd in Introduction to Business Procedures; Hannah Reeves, 3rd in Introduction to Business Procedures and 3rd in Introduction to Financial Math; Sidney Sykes, 3rd in Business Calculations; and Wyatt Potter, 5th in Introduction to Business Procedures. These students will be competing at the state level April 24-26 at the University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Springfield, MO.
Tuesday, April 5, 2016 is Election Day. Patrons of the Adair County R-II School district will be voting on a $1,000,000 no tax increase general obligation bond issue.
Patrons can call the school at 323-5272 for a copy of the ballot language or watch for it to appear in the Kirksville Daily Express and the Edina Sentinel.
Patrons will not have to elect school board members since the number of candidates who filed for the Board is equal to the number of positions avail-able. Those who have filed include incumbents Jim Reeves and Duayne Housman.
