The annual Awards Banquet will be held on Monday, May 10, 2004. The banquet will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the high school gymnasium with the awards ceremony to follow starting at approximately 7:00 p.m.

Each family attending the banquet is asked to bring two covered dishes and their own table service. Drinks and some meat will be furnished by the Athletics Department. The public is welcome to attend.

The Adair County R-II sixth grade promotion ceremony will be held in the high school gymnasium on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

The twenty-two sixth graders include Alyssa Allen, Anthony Ambrosia, Mariah Belzer, Trever Bunch, Ashley Collop, Shelbie Creason, Matthew Edwards, Alexis Harrelson, Aaron Hart, John Hicks, Danielle Hoskin, Tabitha Killen, Emily Ladwig, Daisy Ledford, Cantrell McFarland, Desiree Partin, Robert Sapp, Ariel Smith, Daniel Smith, Katie Stewart, Megan Taylor, and Matt Thomas.

A reception will be held for the students in the cafeteria following promotion.

The Adair County R-II School (Brashear) will conduct its annual kindergarten registration on Monday, May 3, 2004, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Brashear Elementary School.

All district children who are 5 years old before August 1, 2004 are eligible to register for kindergarten for the 2004-2005 school year.

Parents of kindergarten age children please bring the following for registration:

1. The child's official state-issued birth certificate (The hospital or county issued birth record is not acceptable.)

2. The child's up-to-date immunization records

Yearbook sales began on April 1 and will continue through May. This is the 56th edition of the BHS yearbook. The number of yearbooks for the year is limited. Plan to order a yearbook early in order to reserve a copy for you and your family.

Personalized yearbooks are no longer available, however, yearbooks without names may still be purchased. Orders received through April 30 will be $40. Yearbooks ordered on or after May 1 will be $42. Please make your check payable to Adair County R-II School.

The Adair County R-II annual spelling bee celebrated its twenty-first anniversary on April 6, 2004.

The first place speller is David Anderson, son of Mark Anderson and Virginia Anderson; second place speller is Tabitha Killen, daughter of Mike and Brenda Killen; third place speller is Christina Scudder, daughter of James and Elaine Scudder. This is David’s third consecutive first place finish.

Mary Ellen Riley coordinated this event while Christy Grissom served as the judge.

David received a gold medal and fifteen dollars, while Tabitha received a silver medal plus ten dollars, and Christina was awarded the bronze medal and five dollars. Thank you PTS for providing cash awards for three excellent spellers.

The Adair County R-II High School graduation ceremony will be held in the high school gymnasium on Sunday, May 23, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.

The seventeen seniors include Karissa Clark, Chase Cole, Brooke Crandall, Brocke Drummond, Jenny Elsea, Tiffany Higgins, Patrick Ledford, Alicia Longano, J.C. Moots, Jared Osborn, Kristin Osborn, Jessica Rudd, Jennifer Shahan, Joe Shaver, Shane Skaggs, Jessica Thrasher, and Katie Thudium.

The receiving line for the graduates will be in the cafeteria as well as a reception hosted by the National Honor Society.

The Adair County R-II Board of Education met in special session on Monday, April 19, 2004, to swear in new members and reorganize. The officers elected are as follows: President, Doug Clarkson; Vice President, Kenny Crandall; Secretary, Roger Thompson; Treasurer, Curtis Gordon; MARE Delegate, Brent Hettinger. Members are Matt Reeves and Brad Smith.

At the March 16 meeting Brenda Kelsey was recognized for her twelve years of service to the Board.

Lunch refunds will only be given to Seniors on their last day of school. Karla will be sending home bills for those students with a negative balance in their accounts. Any money remaining in your child(ren)’s account(s) will be carried over to the 2004-2005 school year. Refunds will be given only if requested. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Renee or Karla at 323-5272.

The Brashear Elementary is going to offer Summer School for students currently in grades K-4. Classes will begin May 24 and end on June 25, 2004. The school day will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 1:30 p.m.

Due to budget cuts, we will not be able to offer transportation or incentives this summer. Students will be served lunches using the same system used during the regular school term. As a result, students should plan to purchase meals or bring a lunch in the same way they do during the regular school year.

More information will be coming home with your child. Please return this information no later than May 14, 2004.

The Missouri State Library, Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and Missouri Research and Education Network (MOREnet) are happy to announce the availability of the NetSmartz Workshop interactive computer activities and supporting materials for Missouri. According to a 2000 report from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, Online Victimization: A Report on Our Nation's Youth, approximately one in five children received a sexual solicitation or approach over the Internet in one year. Children, parents and educators must inform themselves about potential dangers children can face while surfing the Internet. The NetSmartz Workshop, a program of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, is an interactive, educational resource for youth (ages 5 to 17), parents, guardians, educators and law enforcement. The program uses age-appropriate, 3-D activities to teach young people how to stay safer on the Internet. Instructor Michael Killen took several students and their projects from his Industrial Technology classes to the district contest on Friday, March 26 in Moberly. The following students won their division and the opportunity to compete at state contest in Jefferson City on Saturday, May 8: Brocke Drummond, plastic deer; Tyler Killen, wood/plastic deer and t-shirt; Kimberly Elsea, plastic deer scene; Seth Wheeler, display cabinet; Courtney Clarkson, billfold; Cody Salter, billfold; and Justin Hazen, billfold and cap rack (scored together). Each student received a purple ribbon for their winning entries.

Congratulations to the Junior High Academic Bowl Team on placing 1st at the Tri-County Conference Tournament. Tyler Killen was named to the All-Conference Junior High Academic Bowl Team. Congratulations also to the High School Academic Bowl Team on their 3rd place finish.

Congratulations to the following for their award winning solo instrumental performances at the District Music Festival in Salisbury on Saturday, April 3: Bridget Clarkson—Alto Saxophone (II), Seth Wheeler—Snare Drum (II), and Kayla Moots—Trombone (III). Congratulations to the Tiger Concert Band for their State Level III Rating at the Large Group Festival on March 27.

PTS officers are needed for the 2004-2005 school year. All of the current officers will be coming off of the Board. If no one steps up, PTS may cease to exist.
