LOCAL FBLA CHAPTER ATTENDS SLC
Members
of the Brashear Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Chapter recently
attended the 2011 Missouri FBLA Leadership Conference held on April 17, 18, and
19 in Columbia, Missouri.
FBLA
is a career and technical student organization for all high school students
participating in business programs.
Over 2,700 members and advisers representing 420 chapters throughout the
state met to elect state officers, transact business of the state chapter,
participate in leadership and career workshops, and compete in the state
leadership awards program.
Jay
Scudder placed first in Business Calculations at the FBLA State
Conference. Jay will be competing at
the National Leadership Conference to be held June 28 - July 1 in Orlando,
Florida. Brashear FBLA members will be
selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts in order to raise funds to send him to
Nationals. If you would like to order
Krispy Kreme doughnuts or donate to this cause, please contact the school or an
FBLA member. Krispy Kreme doughnut
sales will run from April 28 to May 6.
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION
The
Adair County R-II High School graduation ceremony will be held in the high
school gymnasium on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.
The
twenty seniors include Jordan Berry, Hayden Coin, William Coy, Stephanie Elsea,
Destiny Ferdig, Tyler Heimer, Amanda
Horton, Heather Longano, Abby McKim,
Cortney Moncrief, Dillon Redding, Zach Reeves, Melissa Rusk, Jay
Scudder, Sydney Slavin, Cody Snelling, Adam Songer, Amber Story, Dakota Walker,
and Abigail Wheeler.
The
receiving line for the graduates will be in the cafeteria immediately following
the ceremony. In addition, National
Honor Society will be hosting a punch and cookie reception.
Good
luck Seniors in all your future endeavors!
SIXTH GRADE PROMOTION
The
Adair County R-II sixth grade promotion ceremony will be held in the high
school gymnasium on Tuesday, May 24, 2011
at 7:00 p.m. The public is welcome to
attend.
The
seventeen sixth graders include Colt
Acton, Jacob Bleything, Kyle Bowen, Andy Clarkson, Tyrell Dysart, Cassy
Graham, Caitlee Hall, Brianne Hart, Trevor Love, Kacie Mihalovich, Mechelia
Potter, Saydie Potter, Jackie Sidenstricker, Breann Turner, Robbyn Wagster,
Tyler Watson, and Damien Zajac.
A
reception will be held for the students in the cafeteria following promotion.
YEARBOOKS
If you haven’t ordered your 2011 yearbook, it’s
not too late. Yearbooks may still be
purchased for $60. Please make your
check payable to Adair County R-II School.
AWARDS BANQUET
The
annual Awards Banquet will be held on Monday, May 2, 2011. The banquet will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the
elementary gymnasium with the awards ceremony to follow starting at
approximately 7:00 p.m.
Each
family attending the banquet is asked to bring two covered dishes and their own
table service. Drinks and some meat
will be furnished by the Athletics Department.
The public is welcome to attend.
BASKETBALL CAMP
Coach
Schneider and members of the boys and girls high school basketball teams will
host basketball camps for girls and boys in grades 5-6 and 7-8. The cost of the camp is $20 and will run
from May 31 thru June 3, with the specific time of day to be determined closer
to camp time. Please mark your
calendars! Look for more information to
follow later in May.
TIGER PRIDE
Congratulations
to the following students who won first place at District Industrial Arts
contest at Moberly on Friday, April 1:
William Coy, Abby Hall, Gus Mihalevich, and David Walker—woodworking;
and Abi Kerby—leather working. These
students are eligible to compete at the State Industrial Arts contest on
Friday, May 6 in Lake Ozark.
Congratulations
to the Junior High and Varsity girls track teams for their 2nd place finish and
the Varsity boys track team for their 3rd place finish at the Tri-County
Conference track meet on Wednesday, April 27.
Congratulations
to Alli Garrett, Abi Kerby, and Kylie Williams for a great performance at the
NEMO Junior High Honor Choir on Monday, April 18.
GIRL SCOUTS NEWS
The
Brashear Junior Girl Scouts troop would like to thank everyone that donated
personal care products for their April Showers collection. These items were donated to the Adair County
Food Depot to help local families who cannot afford to purchase such items.
Lunch
refunds will only be given to Seniors on their last day of school. Karla will be sending home bills for those
students with a negative balance in their accounts. Any money remaining in your child(ren)’s account(s) will be
carried over to the 2011-2012 school year.
Refunds will be given only if requested. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Renee or
Karla at 323-5272.
BLOOD DRIVE
The
American Red Cross and Adair County R-II School will be sponsoring a Blood
Drive on Tuesday, May 3rd from 1:30 to 6:00
p.m. at the Keller Building.

SCHOOL BOARD REORGANIZES
The
Adair County R-II Board of Education met in special session on Wednesday, April
6, 2011, to swear in new members and reorganize. The officers elected are as follows: President, Roger Thompson; Vice President, Curtis Gordon;
Secretary, Traci Hill; Treasurer,
Alissa Treasure; and Board Delegate, Jim Reeves. Members are Duayne Housman and Brad Smith.
SCIENCE MANIA III
Twelve
students were invited to attend the 3rd annual science enrichment class based
on their Terra Nova and/or MAP test scores. ATSU students volunteered their
time to meet on four Wednesdays after school with students in my
classroom. Topics covered
included: liquid nitrogen, super
saturation, dissection of hearts and lungs, cell composition, class
experiments, and more! Special thanks
goes to Nunan's Meat Locker for their donations, the ATSU students, and the BES
students and parents for their participation and support.

One World—Many Stories
Every
Tuesday discover the world through crafts from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Listen to a folktale or a true adventure at
10:30 a.m. or at 4:00 p.m. Students in
grades 3-6 (ages 8-12) get to explore the possibilities by acting it up at
Reader’s Theatre or by writing it out in personal passport journals each Wednesday
morning at 10:30 a.m. Every Thursday
morning, children and their families can experience award winning entertainers
at 10:30 a.m. Be sure to check your

Mario Kart Wii Tournament
All
children, ages 8-12, are invited to play in the Adair County Public Library’s
Mario Kart Tournament from 2:00-3:30 p.m. at the library.
