READING WEEK CELEBRATION

 

Reading Week will take place in the elementary November 11-15.  The week  will begin with a Kick-Off on Monday, November 11 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.  The Book Fair will be open from 5:30-7:30 p.m. that evening as well.  Plan to come and have fun with a variety of activities for both young and old!  Please mark your calendars.

 

PTC NEWS

 

It's that time of year again!  WE ARE IN NEED OF PREPACKAGED, NUT-FREE SNACK DONATIONS AT THIS TIME.  Thanks to our amazing community members we have had enough snacks donated in the past to keep the pantry stocked all year long.  The birthday pantry is used when children are unable to bring a birthday treat (or in case moms and dads forget) and for special rewards for classrooms.  You may send your treat donations with your student (labeled birthday pantry) or drop them off in the elementary office.  Thanks so much for your help with this project!  You will put a smile on a child's face with your donation!

 

CANNED FOOD DRIVE

 

Bring a canned food item to the November 8 or November 19 junior high basketball games against Mary Immaculate and receive $1 off your admission.  The donated food will be given to the Food Pantry of Adair County.  Come and support our Tigers while we also reach out to those in need within our community.

 

STATE RELEASES APRs FOR DISTRICTS AND SCHOOLS

 

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has released the first set of annual performance reports (APRs) for Missouri schools based on the state’s newly revised accountability system.  The fifth version of the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP 5) was approved by the State Board of Education in 2011, giving schools two years to prepare for the new accountability requirements.  The annual performance reports show how well each public school and school district is meeting the state’s education standards.  The reports are used to review and accredit Missouri’s school districts.

 

Under MSIP 5, every school district in the state is awarded points based on its performance in five areas:  academic achievement, subgroup achievement, college and career or high school readiness, attendance rate, and graduation rate.  Once again our students, faculty, and staff have risen to the occasion and scored 133.5 points out of 140 points possible.  This accountability standard shows that not only have we proven our school is one of the top in Northeast Missouri, but statewide as well!  Way to Go!

 

BREAKFAST/LUNCH MENU

 

Breakfast each day includes milk and juice.  Students may also choose cereal instead of the breakfast item offered.  The following items are offered daily for students to choose from in lieu of the main entrée: yogurt or a WOWBUTTER® (peanut butter replacement) and jelly sandwich.

Friday: French toast sticks, syrup/Walking taco, refried beans, lettuce, applesauce, ice cream, milk

 

November 4-8

Monday: Long john, fruit/Spaghetti, cottage cheese, peas, mandarin oranges, banana bread, milk

Tuesday: Biscuit, sausage, egg & cheese/Mr. Ribb, mashed potatoes, green beans, peaches, brownie, milk

Wednesday: Breakfast pizza/Grilled cheese, soup, carrots, pineapple, pumpkin bar, milk

Thursday: Cinnamon roll, fruit/Chicken fajitas, lettuce, veggies, rice, pears, cake, milk

Friday: Cheese omelet, toast/Pizza, corn, lettuce, applesauce, ice cream, milk

 

November 11-15

Monday: Biscuits & gravy/Hamburger, fries, butter beans, mandarin oranges, cookie, milk

Tuesday: French toast sticks, syrup/Chicken wrap, rice, lettuce, fruit, milk

Wednesday: Breakfast wrap/Country fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, peaches, chocolate cake, milk

Thursday: Pancake, syrup, sausage/Garlic cheese bread, ravioli, vegetable, fruit, cheesecake, milk

Friday: Breakfast bites, syrup/Corn dog, tater tots, sweet potatoes, applesauce, apple crisp, milk

 

November 18-22

Monday: Waffle, syrup, sausage links/Chicken nuggets, macaroni & cheese, carrots, mandarin oranges, cookie, milk

Tuesday: Bagel or muffin/Tenderloin, cheesy potatoes, vegetable, fruit, pumpkin bar,  milk

Wednesday: Scrambled eggs, bacon, toast/Sub sandwich, soup, vegetable, fruit, cheesecake, milk

FROM THE DESK OF THE SUPERINTENDENT

 

An idea to think about…

 

With our declining enrollment, I have talked with the School Board about considering the possibility of reducing our bus routes for the 2014-2015 school year from 4 routes down to 3 routes.  Currently, we have an enrollment of 192 students K-12 and of those, approximately 120 students ride the school bus regularly.  The change would result in the 3 routes each being about 30 minutes longer than their current length, in both the morning and afternoon routes.  This change could save the district an estimated $15,000 per year and 10,000 miles on our buses.

MAP SATURDAYS EXPANDED

 

Our district was recently awarded a grant by the Missouri State Teachers Foundation that will help fund MAP Saturday Study Sessions.  We have hosted MAP Saturdays for the past 3 years for students in 5th grade, but the grant will now expand the program to include students in grades 4-6.  These study days will begin in January and run through April.  They allow students to focus on specific skill areas to improve their overall MAP scores.  The study sessions begin at 1:30 and finish at 4:30 with pizza and a movie.  All students need to be picked up no later than 6:15.  A schedule of the dates is below.  Be sure to mark your calendars!

TIGER PRIDE

 

Our softball and baseball teams recently completed their fall seasons.  The girls finished second in the conference with a record of 7-1 and an overall record of 11-7.  The boys finished the season 0-9 overall, 0-8 in conference play.  Tri-County All-Conference selections included  Meredith Thomas—First Team and Alexa Acton and Ashley Moncrief—Second Team.  Alexa Acton and Meredith Thomas were also selected to the All-District 9 Team. 

Congratulations to the following students for representing our school in the 2013 Tri-County Conference Choir Tour on Monday, October 21:  Willow Frazier, Alli Garrett, Kiersten Hart, Abi Kerby, Celia Kincaid, and Megan McHenry.  They joined other students from eight schools that performed on tour at LaPlata, Atlanta, and Bevier.
