OCTOBER 1, 2012                                                  Brashear, Missouri

The elementary school will be celebrating National School Lunch week October 8-12.  Plan on eating with your favorite Brashear Elementary student(s) during this week.  An adult lunch costs $2.85.

Please let us know the day before you are eating by sending a note with your child or giving us a call.  The schedule is as follows:

  Monday        Kindergarten  12:08-12:33

                        4th Grade       11:05-11:30

  Tuesday       1st Grade       12:10-12:35

                        5th Grade       11:00-11:25

  Wednesday 2nd Grade      12:11-12:36

  Thursday      3rd Grade      12:09-12:34

  Friday                       6th Grade       10:55-11:20

We are asking that you do not bring younger siblings, as they will have a hard time with the lunch schedule and procedures.  We are also asking that only one guest accompany your child  for that day.

School will be dismissed at 1:03 p.m. on Thursday, October 18th for parent teacher conferences.  Conferences are scheduled from 1:15    p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  If you have not already done so, please contact the appropriate office to schedule an appointment for your child(ren).  You will be able to pick up first quarter grade cards at the time of your conference.

Please note that we will not have school on Friday, October 19, 2012.

The Brashear Elementary Student Council will be collecting Box Tops again this year.  Last October, we sent in a collection of Box Tops worth $762.  In February, we sent in another collection worth $480.  This year we would like to set our goal at $1,400.  With your help, we will be able to reach that goal.  Every Box Top you collect is worth $.10.  Thank you for taking the time to clip Box Tops, the money we receive really does help the school.

Pursuant to the requirements of state law 162.997-999-RSMo, the State Board of Education is required to appoint a surrogate parent as such time as it becomes evident that a child with a disability does not have a parent or a person acting as a parent to participate in matters dealing with the provision of special education.  For purposes of surrogate parent appointment, “parent” is defined as a biological parent, a guardian, or a person acting as a parent of a child including, but not limited to, a grandparent, a step parent, or a foster parent with whom the child lives.  The term does not include the State if the child is a ward of the State.  The term does not include a person whose parental rights have been terminated.

The local school district is given the responsibility to determine when a child with a disability who requires special education and who resides in the District is without a parent.  The District must notify the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education of the need to appoint a surrogate parent.  Training for persons serving as surrogate parents will be provided by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the District.

If you are interested in volunteering to serve as a surrogate parent, more information can be obtained from the Districts’ surrogate parent contact person - the person responsible for the District’s special education program.

The Parent Teacher Club met September 17 in the cafeteria with 10 members present to discuss the year's goals, playground, birthday pantry, fundraisers, and the possibility of merging with PTS.  The Club discussed purchasing a large piece of equipment suitable for our available space and the students using the playground.  With the grant discount, the goal is within reach, but must be ordered by October 31 with payment in full.  Currently the Club has $9,990.27.  The Club received approval to send out another Fun Pasta order in October with students and patrons.  It was a big success in the Spring and hopefully it will be again this Fall.

The next meeting is October 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.  All are invited and encouraged to  attend.
