BOARD ELECTION NEWS
There will be two open
seats for the Board of Education election on April 3, 2012. The incumbents are Brad Smith and Roger
Thompson. Those elected will serve
three-year terms. The first day for
candidates to file is Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 8:00 a.m. The last day for candidates to file will be
Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.
A candidate must be a
U.S. citizen, a resident taxpayer of the Adair County R-II School District,
have resided in the state of Missouri for at least one year preceding the
election, and be at least 24 years of age.
Candidates may be
required to file a financial interest statement and must agree to obtain 16
hours of credit in school boardmanship within 12 months of the election.
Interested candidates
may pick up filing materials in the Superintendent’s office beginning on
Tuesday, December 13 at 8:00 a.m. The
superintendent’s office will be closed December 21-31 and therefore will not be
accepting candidates filing on those dates.
Regular business hours will resume on Monday, January 2. On January 17, the office will remain open
until 5:00 p.m. for filing purposes.

Citizens have until
Wednesday, March 7, 2012 to register to vote in the April general election.

MUSIC NEWS
The
annual Christmas program will take place on Monday, December 12, at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Gymnasium. The bands from grades 5-12, all vocal groups
K-12 and several soloists will perform.
We hope you will come and share this Christmas tradition with us.
We
are very proud of Abby Hall, who competed against top high school band
musicians
from across NE Missouri and won a chair in the All-District Honorable Mention
Band. This ensemble will perform its
concert on Saturday, January 14 at Moberly High School.
Sidney
Sykes, flutist, and Abi Kerby, trombonist, have been named to the Northeast
Missouri All-District Junior High Honor Band. These two will join other accomplished junior high musicians for a
band concert at Macon High School on Saturday, February 18.
BOX TOPS UPDATE
A
big thank you goes out to everyone who clipped Box Tops and gave them to the
Elementary Student Council. On November
1, we mailed a box full of Box Tops worth $768.20.
We
will be sending another box in February, so please continue to clip and save
Box Tops.

DVD’S FOR SALE
The
Computer Class has been creating DVD’s of the Fall 2011 activities. They have completed videos for Softball,
Baseball (fall season), Junior High Girls Basketball, and Junior High Boys
Basketball. The highlight videos will
be available in time for Christmas.
They also have a variety of DVD’s available from previous years The cost is $2 per title. If you are interested, please call the
school at 323-5272.
PINK OUT GAME
The
Brashear Varsity Cheerleading Squad is hosting the 1st Annual “Pink-Out”
basketball game between the Brashear Tigers and the LaPlata Bulldogs on
December 13, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in honor of Prestin Filz and Will Jacobs.
Prestin,
the 15-month old son of Cody Filz and Heidi Kurz, was recently diagnosed with a
Whilms tumor. He has also had a kidney
removed. Prestin is undergoing
radiation and chemotherapy at Children’s Hospital in St. Louis weekly.
Will,
a 12 year old 7th grade student at Green City, is the son of Allen and Trena
Jacobs. At the beginning of September,
Will was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
He is undergoing both chemotherapy and radiation in Columbia.
The
“Pink-Out” game will raise money for both families to help with expenses. T-shirts will be made available for public
purchase before the game and all proceeds from the sale of the t-shirts will be
given to the Filz and Jacobs families.
If you would like to purchase t-shirts, please complete the order form
below and return to the school. We must
have your order by Monday,
December 5.
The
following design will be printed on heliconia (bright pink) Gildan
t-shirts. Imprint colors will be white
and light pink. The cost will be $12
for Youth Small through Adult XLarge.
XXL and XXXL will be $14.
Please
make checks payable to Adair County R-II School. Orders can be turned in
to Jackie, Karla or Renee and MUST be received by Monday, December 5th.

Breakfast each day includes milk and
juice. Students may choose cereal
instead of the breakfast item offered.
The following items are offered daily for students to choose from in
lieu of the lunch entrée: yogurt or peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

INCLEMENT WEATHER
As
the winter season approaches, we are reminding parents and students to listen
to the local media stations to check on “early dismissals” and/or “no school”
bulletins. This information will be
given to KTVO television, KHQA television, WGEM television, KIRX radio, KTUF
radio, KRXL radio, KRES radio of Moberly, KMEM radio of Memphis, and KZBK radio
of Brookfield. These stations will
present dismissal information as soon as decisions have been made. Please do not call the school.
