ADAIR COUNTY R-II NEWSLETTER

RESULTS OF ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REPORT
The Annual Performance Report (APR) shows the
district’s status on the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP) Performance
Standards. For all districts, the APR
is intended to serve as an annual status report on the MSIP Performance
Standards and as a planning tool for improvement efforts. The report is intended to further assist
districts as they refine improvement plans for all students.
The APR allows us to know where we are in the
“eyes” of the state department and it provides us with insight on the direction
we need to take for the future.
The report measures the district in each of
the following twelve categories. Each
of the 12 Performance Measures for K-12 districts will be designated either
“Met” or “Not Met” according to the published Scoring Guide for that school
year.

11 out of 12 categories were met with 91
points out of 100 possible points scored.
Accreditation standards, through the state department, require a minimum
of 66 points out of 100 possible points.
This becomes very important to our district
this year, as we will be going through the Third-Cycle MSIP Review in
February. Through the points earned on
the APR, we have 91 of the 106 points required for accreditation. That means that we must earn 15 points out
of 49 possible points during the on-site review. Of course, we are hoping to earn most of those 49 points.
We currently are performing at an outstanding
level thanks to the dedication of parents, students, and staff. I look forward to continued success and
praise your combined efforts that led us to this truly remarkable
accomplishment.
AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE
A blood drive will be held on Thursday,
January 16 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. All donors will receive a T-shirt.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Construction is progressing on schedule and
the concrete floor slabs have been poured for all of the classrooms with the
exception of the multipurpose room.
Structural steel erection is continuing to proceed and we expect to be
ready to install bar joists and metal roof decking in the near future.

SPORTSMANSHIP/CITIZENSHIP
The following excerpt was taken from the article Sportsmanship - We All Have A Responsibility by George Blase, Missouri State High School Activities Association Assistant Executive Director.
What is sportsmanship?
1) Sportsmanship is a demonstration of generosity and genuine concern for
others. It is a concrete measure of the understanding and commitment to fair
play, ethical behavior and integrity.
2) Sportsmanship is a blending of cheers for “your team” and applause for the
“opponents,” observing the letter and spirit of the rules, and showing
consideration for others.
3) Sportsmanship is the “golden rule” of athletics – treating others as you
wish to be treated.
4) Sportsmanship is respect. Respect for others and yourself.
Everyone associated with an athletic event – coaches, athletics, officials, cheerleaders, spectators and school administration – play an important role in seeing that standards of sportsmanship are upheld before, during, and after a contest is played.
What are some behavior guidelines?
Examples of
Acceptable Behavior:
1) Applause during introduction of athletes, coaches and officials.
2) Athletes shaking hands with opponent who fouls out while both sets of fans
recognized athlete’s performance with applause.
3) Accept all decisions of officials.
4) Cheerleaders lead fans in positive yells in positive manner.
5) Handshakes between participants and coaches at end of contest, regardless of outcome.
6) Treat competition as a game, not a war.
7) Coaches/athletes search out opposing participants to recognize them for
outstanding performance or coaching.
8) Applause at end of contest for performances of all participants.
9) Everyone showing concern for an injured athlete, regardless of team.
10) Encourage surrounding people to display only sportsmanlike conduct.
Examples of
Unacceptable Behavior:
1) Disrespectful or derogatory yells, chants, songs or gestures.
2) Turning backs or holding up newspapers while teams are being introduced, or
when teams, cheerleaders or drill teams are performing.
3) Booing or heckling an official’s decision.
4) Criticizing officials in any way; displays of temper with an official’s
call.
5) Yells that antagonize opponents.
6) Refusing to shake hands or give recognition for good performances.
7) Blaming loss of game on officials, coaches or athletes.
8) Laughing or name-calling to distract an opponent.
9) Use of profanity or displays of anger that draw attention away from the
game.
10) Doing own yells instead of following lead of cheerleaders.
11) Wearing extreme or unusual clothing or excessive face or body painting
which detracts from the action on the playing court or field.
Interscholastic athletics are indeed an important part of our schools and each
school community. It is vital that the enthusiasm generated by these activities
be kept in proper perspective. MSHSAA By-Laws hold a school responsible for
the conduct of its players, students, coaches, and fans at all athletic
contests both at home and away.
“The late Vince Lombardi, former
great coach of the Green Bay Packers, was famous for his statement, ‘Winning
isn’t the most important thing; it’s the only thing!’ Shortly before he died,
he looked back at this quote and said, ‘I wish I’d never said it. I meant the
effort. I sure didn’t mean for people to crush human values and morality.’”
