21ST CCLC BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM NEWS

 

A big thanks goes to everyone who contributed desserts and time to working the kitchen and concessions on the last evening of the Brashear Tournament.  Tiger Pride earned $457.40!  That will go directly into our savings account and be put toward sustaining the program after our grant ends!  We are scheduled to work during the 5th/6th Grade Tournament on March 20, 2009, so please pencil us in on your calendar for either a dessert or work donation!

 

The Parent Advisory Committee met in February and plans are almost ready to be presented to the Board in April and to all Brashear families before the end of the school year.  Things are looking good for the 2009-2010 school year!

 

If you have any suggestions for fundraisers, program changes, available grants, etc. that can be used to sustain the program, please feel free to

contact me!  Please be looking for an in-depth report about program progress and changes later this month!

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

 

On Saturday, February 21st twenty-one students participated in the annual Jump Rope for Heart event.  The students jumped rope, played games, and enjoyed a wonderful lunch.  $1,355.01 was raised for the American Heart Association by twenty-three enthusiastic elementary students.

 

We would like to thank the following businesses and individuals who donated prizes, money, or support to make our event so successful.

PLAYGROUND FUNDRAISER

 

On Monday, March 23rd from 5:30-7:30 p.m., the Playground Committee will be hosting a Spaghetti Supper Fundraiser.  The cost is $5 ages 13 and older, $3 ages 3-12, and children under 3 are free.  The meal will include; spaghetti, garlic bread, lettuce salad, dessert, and drink.  Tickets may be purchased in advance from any elementary student, Playground Committee member, or can be purchased that evening.  The Spaghetti Supper is open to the community and surrounding areas.  All proceeds from the Spaghetti Supper will go into the Playground Fund.

 

That evening the elementary students will also be having Author Night, the Fifth Grade class will hold its annual Science Fair, and the Book Fair will be available for viewing and purchasing books.  If you have any questions about the spaghetti supper, or would like to donate a dessert, please contact a Playground Committee member at the school 323-5272.

 

The Playground Committee would also like to thank those who donated desserts, worked the ballgame, or did both during the Brashear Tournament.

 

COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASSES AVAILABLE

 

Kirksville Area Technical Center has numerous community education classes available to the public.  Enrollment began Monday, January 19, 2009 for the spring session.

 

Courses will be offered at KATC in the following areas during the months of March through June:  Business, Computers, Technical, Healthy Living, Arts & Crafts, and Personal Enrichment.

 

For a listing of courses available, you may contact Kirksville Area Technical Center, the High School Office at Adair County R-II or by visiting KATC website at http://www.kirksville.k12.mo.us/tech_center and clicking on the link for Community Education.

Breakfast each day includes milk and juice.  The following items are offered daily for students to choose from in lieu of the main entrée: yogurt or peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
