MUSIC NEWS
Congratulations to
the following musicians for earning Excellent (II) ratings on their solo and
ensemble performances at the District Music Festival in Salisbury on March 30
and 31: Stephanie Linhart - Vocal Solo;
Katie Stewart - French Horn Solo; Alexis Harrelson - Mixed Woodwind Trio;
Christina Scudder - Mixed Woodwind Trio; and Tabitha Killen - Flute Solo &
Mixed Woodwind Trio. Christina Scudder
- Clarinet Soloist earned a Superior (I) rating on her performance at the
District level which qualified her to perform at the State Music Festival on
Friday, April 27. This is the second
year in a row Christina has earned an opportunity to perform at the state
level.
Nine Brashear Junior
High Band Members will perform as soloists at the Macon Middle School/Junior
High Music Festival on Saturday, May 5.
They are Sydney Slavin - Trombone; Stephanie Elsea - Snare Drum; Abby
McKim - Snare Drum; Cody Snelling - Snare Drum; Rachael Ferguson - Clarinet;
Cierra Hines - Clarinet; Abigail Wheeler - Clarinet; Chloe Sykes - Alto
Saxophone; and Jay Scudder - Alto Saxophone.
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION
The Adair County
R-II High School graduation ceremony will be held in the high school gymnasium
on Sunday, May 20, 2007 at 3:00 p.m.
The public is cordially invited to attend.
The seventeen
seniors include Tyler Blake, Ashley Clarkson, Bridget Clarkson, Brandon
Claybrook, Chelsey Collop, Kimberly Elsea, Kayla Hettinger, Tyler Killen, Luke
Lunsford, Amanda Mills, Kayla Moots, Amanda Powell, Barbara Pruett, Andrea
Reeves, Rashanea Rusk, Seth Wheeler, and Patricia Woods.
The receiving line
for the graduates will be in the cafeteria immediately following the
ceremony. In addition, National Honor
Society will be hosting a punch and cookie reception.
Good luck Seniors in all your future endeavors.
SIXTH GRADE PROMOTION
The Adair County
R-II sixth grade promotion ceremony will be held in the high school gymnasium
on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at 7:00
p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
The fifteen sixth
graders include Austin Alexander, Jeremy Barnes, Nick Bradshaw, Wendy Clarkson,
Miranda Creason, Sidney DeBie, Nicholas Gordon, T.J. Harrelson, Hayden Housman,
Jesse Kelsey, Blake Pflum, Cody Raine, Shelby Salter, Olivia Thompson, and
David Walker.
A reception will be held for the students in the cafeteria following
promotion.
AWARDS BANQUET/SILENT
AUCTION
The annual Awards
Banquet will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2007. The banquet will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the elementary gymnasium
with the awards ceremony to follow starting at approximately 7:00 p.m.
Each family
attending the banquet is asked to bring two covered dishes and their own table
service. Drinks and some meat will be
furnished by the Athletics Department.
The public is welcome to attend.
2007 YEARBOOK SALES CONTINUE
Yearbook sales began
on March 1 and will continue through May.
This is the 59th edition of the BHS yearbook. The number of yearbooks for the year is limited—only 100 copies
have been ordered. Plan to order a
yearbook in order to reserve a copy for you and your family.
Personalized
yearbooks are no longer available, however, yearbooks without names may still
be purchased. Yearbooks ordered on or
after May 1 will be $60. Please make
your check payable to Adair County R-II School.
SCHOOL BOARD REORGANIZES
The Adair County
R-II Board of Education met in special session on Monday, April 16, 2007, to
swear in new members and reorganize.
The officers elected are as follows: President, Brad Smith; Vice President, Doug Clarkson; Secretary,
Roger Thompson; Treasurer, Brent Hettinger; and Board Delegate, Traci
Hill. Members are Curtis Gordon and Matt
Reeves.
LUNCH REFUNDS
Lunch refunds will
only be given to Seniors on their last day of school. Karla will be sending home bills for those students with a
negative balance in their accounts. Any
money remaining in your child(ren)’s account(s) will be carried over to the
2007-2008 school year. Refunds will be
given only if requested. If you have
any questions, please feel free to contact Renee or Karla at 323-5272.
SUMMER SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
INCENTIVE
Attendance at summer
school is important in order for your child to gain the full benefit of the
experience. In an effort to encourage
students’ attendance at Summer School this year, we will award a $20 Wal-Mart
Gift Card to students with 95% or better attendance.
Enrollment for
summer school is still open. Classes
will begin May 29, 2007 and run through June 27, 2007. The program is intended for all students who
will be in kindergarten through eighth grade in the fall of 2007. The before and after school program (Tiger
Pride) will be available to extend the school day. Afternoon transportation will be available after the Tiger Pride
program and breakfast and lunch will be served. Applications are still being accepted.
DVD’S FOR SALE
The Computer Class
has been creating DVD’s of the 2006-2007 school year’s activities. They have completed videos for Softball,
Junior High Girls Basketball, Junior High Boys Basketball, Varsity Girls
Basketball, Varsity Boys Basketball, and Cheers and Spirit. They will be available at a cost of $5 each.
By years end they
hope to have Baseball, Track, Music, and BHS News videos. If you are interested, please call the
school at 323-5272.

Breakfast each day includes milk and juice. The following items are offered daily for students to choose from
in lieu of the main entrée: yogurt or peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

ADAIR COUNTY R-II NAMED IN
THE TOP-TEN MAP HIGHEST PERFORMING SCHOOLS
Two
Adair County R-II School classes have been recognized for high performance on
the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) tests for the spring of 2006. The 2005-06 third grade at Brashear
Elementary ranked 3rd out of the top ten schools (with an enrollment less than
250) in math with 91.7% of the students scoring “Advanced” or
“Proficient”. That third grade class
also ranked 5th in communication arts with 75% of the students scoring
“Advanced” or “Proficient”. The 2005-06
tenth grade at Brashear High School ranked 3rd out of the top ten schools in
math with 77.8% of students scoring “Advanced” or “Proficient”.
The Top-Ten List is
a list of schools in each of three categories (schools with less than 250
students, schools between 250 to 500 students, and schools with more than 500
students) whose students represent the top ten schools in percent of students
scoring at the “proficient” and “advanced” levels on the spring state
achievement test otherwise known as the MAP test.
The “proficient” and “advanced” level is a standard set by the Missouri
Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as the “gold” standard or the
benchmark established as the desirable achievement level for all students.

TIGER PRIDE
Congratulations to the high school academic bowl team for finishing in the top four at the District Tournament hosted by North Shelby on Saturday, April 14. Josiah Belzer was named captain of the All-District Team. Josiah averaged 122.5 points per game.
Congratulations to the following students who won first place at District Industrial Arts contest at Moberly on Friday, April 13: Joe Clarkson, billfold; Abby McKim, clock; Stephanie Elsea, can cooler and clock; Matt Thomas, pen; and Dakota Walker—pen. The Junior High Tech Bowl Team also won first place. Team members included Jay Scudder, Abby McKim, Stephanie Elsea and Ashton Wolter.
These students are eligible to compete at the State Industrial Arts contest on Friday, May 4 at Lodge of the Four Seasons in Lake Ozark.
Congratulations to Mariah Belzer for placing 1st and to Kayla Hettinger for placing 3rd in the Fiber Arts division at the Conference Art Show.
Congratulations to Christina Scudder for placing second in Business Communications at the Missouri FBLA State Leadership Conference. Christina competed against 39 students from 20 districts throughout the state. Missouri has over 400 FBLA chapters throughout the state. Christina is eligible to compete at the National FBLA Leadership Conference. This conference will be held on June 28 - July 1 in Chicago, Illinois.
Congratulations to the Brashear Chapter of FBLA for receiving a state chapter award. The Brashear Chapter won the largest chapter membership award for Class 1 schools in the state of Missouri.
Congratulations to Abigail Wheeler for winning the 2007 essay contest sponsored by the National Rural Education Association Foundation and the University of Oklahoma for the middle school/junior high division. By winning, she is the recipient of the $400 cash prize.
