also asking that only one guest accompany your child for that day.
PARENT TEACHER
CONFERENCES
School will be
dismissed at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 23rd for parent teacher
conferences. Conferences are scheduled
from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. If you have
not already done so, please contact the school to schedule an appointment for
your child(ren). You will be able to
pick up first quarter grade cards at the time of your conference.
Please note
that we will not have school on Friday, October 24, 2014.
The Brashear Elementary Student
Council will be collecting Box Tops again this year. Last October, we sent in a collection of Box Tops worth
$790. In February, we sent in another
collection worth $413. Every Box Top
you collect is worth $.10. Thank you
for taking the time to clip Box Tops.
The money we receive really does help the school.
“October’s Party"
October gave a
party;
The leaves by hundreds came,—
The Ashes, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The sunshine spread a carpet,
And every thing was grand;
Miss Weather led the dancing;
Professor Wind, the band....
The sight was like a rainbow
New-fallen from the sky....

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
SURROGATE PARENT PROGRAM
Pursuant to the
requirements of state law 162.997-999-RSMo, the State Board of Education is
required to appoint a surrogate parent as such time as it becomes evident that
a child with a disability does not have a parent or a person acting as a parent
to participate in matters dealing with the provision of special education. For purposes of surrogate parent
appointment, “parent” is defined as a biological parent, a guardian, or a person
acting as a parent of a child including, but not limited to, a grandparent, a
step parent, or a foster parent with whom the child lives. The term does not include the State if the
child is a ward of the State. The term
does not include a person whose parental rights have been terminated.
The local
school district is given the responsibility to determine when a child with a
disability who requires special education and who resides in the District is
without a parent. The District must
notify the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education of the
need to appoint a surrogate parent.
Training for persons serving as surrogate parents will be provided by
the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the District.
If you are
interested in volunteering to serve as a surrogate parent, more information can
be obtained from the Districts’ surrogate parent contact person - the person
responsible for the District’s special education program.
INCLEMENT
WEATHER
As the winter
season approaches, we are reminding parents and students to listen to the local
media stations to check on “early dismissals” and/or “no school”
bulletins. This information will be
given to KTVO television, KHQA television, WGEM television, KIRX radio, KTUF
radio, KRXL radio, KLTE radio, KRES radio of Moberly, KMEM radio of Memphis,
and KZBK radio of Brookfield. These
stations will present dismissal information as soon as decisions have been
made. Please do not call the school.
TITLE I
PROGRAM
Brashear
Elementary is a Schoolwide Title I School.
This designation means that all of the students in the elementary are
eligible to benefit from the services provided through this program. Such services include: individual and small
group instruction in reading, math, and/or science; programs purchased with
Title I funds, such as Reading Eggs and MobyMax; and tutoring for those
eligible students. These programs and
services are available to ALL students in the elementary because of that
designation.
In
the beginning of the year packet, a parent information sheet was included. On that sheet, you may have noticed Title I
as being marked for your child(ren).
All students, K-6, were marked as Title I students because of our
Schoolwide designation, not necessarily because they are receiving individual
or small group instruction in the Title I Reading Room. If you have any questions, please call Mrs.
Shipman at 660.323.5272 or email at shelly_shipman@brashear.k12.mo.us
A+ SCHOOLS
PROGRAM
Students in grades 9-12 that have not signed an agreement for the
A+ Schools Program are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. The student will need to see Mrs. Reeves in
the Learning Center for an agreement which needs to be signed by the student
and their parent(s). A brochure explaining the guidelines of the program will
be given to the student with the agreement.
Please feel free to call or email me with any questions you might have
at cheryl_reeves@brashear.k12.mo.us or 660.323.5272 ext. 15.
