PARENT PORTAL AVAILABLE
Would you like to
be kept informed of how your student is doing in class over the Internet? Last year our new student information system
allowed parents to keep track of their child's grades, lunch accounts, and
attendance. Those that used the system
were pleased with having the access to what their child was doing at school.
To get access to
this information you will need to fill out a use of technology agreement. You can pick up a technology use agreement
from either the high school or elementary office. If you signed up last year you do not need to fill one out
again. If you forgot your password you
can contact the office to have it resent.
With your help we can keep your child on the track to success.
CELL PHONE USAGE
Developments in
cell phone technology in recent years have resulted in enhanced communication
opportunities. However, the use of cell
phones in schools poses increasing risks of school disruptions, bullying,
criminal activity, and academic dishonesty.
As a result,
beginning with the 2008-2009 school year, student cell phones, digital cameras
and similar electronic devices shall be turned off and are not to be seen or
heard during the instructional day, and are banned in dressing areas at all
times (home and away).
Violation of this
policy beginning with the 2008-2009 school year will result in parents having
to pick the device up on the first offense, while the second offense will
result in parents having to pick up the device and a detention. Third and
subsequent offenses will result in in-school suspension and parents having to
pick up the device.
Telephones are
available in school offices for parents to contact their student for legitimate
reasons.

HOMELESS STUDENTS
If you are
homeless and going to school, let the school know about it. Being homeless and going to school would be
hard for any child regardless of age or grade level. Many things that you
normally would not have worried about before become issues, such as
transportation, space to do homework and school attendance. Some families are
afraid to let their child’s school know that they are in between places for
fear of being judged or, even worse, being reported to DFS.
There are some
things you should know about being homeless and going to public school:
There are laws
that protect your child’s rights and your rights as a parent to be treated as
any other participant of the Adair County R-II School.
The school district
has a program to help homeless families with resources to help your child stay
on track and can direct you to agencies that can help you during your period of
homelessness.
It is your choice
to let the school district know that you are homeless.
The school
district, like any other agency that mandates reports, must have a reason to
call DFS. Homelessness, depending on the circumstances, is not grounds to make
a DFS report.
Homeless students
have the right to:
Be enrolled
without a birth certificate, immunization record or other required
documentation.
Attend the school
that he/she attended before the family lost its home.
Be transferred to
a school closer to where he/she is staying now.
Get assistance
with free transportation to and from school.
Have access to
materials such as books and supplies to ensure an equal opportunity to
participate in school.
Receive any
special services that he/she might need.
These services include:
1. Special education
2. Bilingual services
3. Gifted and talented education services
4. Free lunch and breakfast program
5. Counseling services
6. Before and after school programs
7. Tutoring services
Attend school
free of judgment.
Parents and
guardians of homeless children have the right to:
Be involved in
your child’s education.
Be notified of
and involved in any decision that your child’s school makes regarding his or
her social or academic career.
Request a Student
Alert team meeting for your child and include people of support. These may be a
social worker or counselor from an agency you are working with or someone that
has tutored your child at an after school program.

DIRECTV4SCHOOLS FUNDRAISING PROGRAM
Adair County R-II
has enrolled in the DIRECTV4Schools fundraising program for the 2008-2009
school year. Through DIRECTV4Schools,
our school will receive a cash contribution for every new, existing or
returning DIRECTV customer who commits to a year of DIRECTV satellite television
service using our school code.
Unlike
traditional fundraising efforts, DIRECTV4Schools is designed to be easy to
implement and administer, greatly simplifying the process for schools and
parents. There are no orders to take,
no money to collect, and no products to deliver.
To participate,
simply call (888) 388-4724, use our school code of A1436 and sign up for
DIRECTV today. Our school will receive
$100 for each new customer who orders and activates DIRECTV service and $50 for
existing or returning customers who extend their current commitment to DIRECTV
for one year. Please share this
information with your family and friends that may not have students in our
school but would like to help out the school.
With the help of
families like yours, DIRECTV4Schools is an easy way for us to raise the funds
we need for the special programs, equipment, and events that enrich our
students learning experiences. Please
help us spread the word by encouraging your friends and family to call (888)
388-4724 and subscribe to DIRECTV using our unique school code (A1436).

information on this program, please visit www.directv4schools.com.
21ST CCLC BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Welcome to the
2008-2009 school year! Tiger Pride is
in full swing and it's good to be back with the students! If you're not familiar with Tiger Pride, we
provide care for children before school from 7:00-8:00 a.m. and after school
from 3:00-5:00 p.m. This is more than
just childcare! We provide nutritious
snacks, fun physical activities, homework help and professional care!
If your child has
been enrolled in Tiger Pride, there are no new forms to complete! Contact Mrs. Kerby if there are any changes
in your contact information or with care giving needs for your child. You can send a note in your child's planner,
call me at 660-323-5272 ext. 39 (leave a message at this Library extension if
I'm not at the school yet) or e-mail me at wendy_kerby@brashear.k12.mo.us. If you need to reach me from 3:00-5:00 p.m.,
you can call the Tiger Pride cell phone number which is (660) 216-8075.
A procedural
change from last year is that children cannot be picked up from the parking
lot. A family member or designated
person needs to come inside the school, get the child and sign the
attendance-sheet kept on the purple clip-board. Please let us know if the "going home" arrangements for
your child changes!
To enroll your
child in Tiger Pride, please request an enrollment packet! We'd love to have your child/children with
us!
