Brashear Competes in 1st Round of Districts
The Lady Tigers face off against Atlanta while the Tigers play
Novinger.
The Brashear Lady Tigers drew the number 3 seed and faced number
6 Atlanta Saturday afternoon at Green City. Both teams started
slowly, but Brashear finally started to find the bucket while
Atlanta was held to a single free throw leaving them down 12-1 at
the end of the 1st quarter. Things didn't improve much for
Atlanta as Brashear ran their lead to 23-5 at halftime on the way
to a 46-13 win. Hailee Kelsey and Jessi Hill were both in double
digits for Brashear. They scored all 9 of Brashear's points in a
strange 4th quarter that saw Atlanta's center and leading scorer,
Joni Ahern, foul out leaving Atlanta with only 4 players to
finish the game. Kelsey had 14, Hill had 10, ChaRae Cole and
Kimberly Elsea both had 6, Christina Scudder and Ashley Clarkson
both had 4, and Chelsey Collop had 2 points. Kelsey had a
double-double with 12 rebounds. Atlanta was led by Joni Ahern
with 6, Stacie Sagaser with 4, Tiffany Watson with 2, and Katelyn
Wiggins with 1 point.
The Brashear boys had drawn the number 6 seed and had to face #3
Novinger. Novinger came out strong and posted a lead of 19-7
after the 1st quarter. Brashear wasn't ready to go away just yet
though and they scored 14 points to Novinger's 15 in the 2nd
quarter. The 3rd quarter saw Novinger once again extend their
lead to 54-32, but in a gutsy performance, the Tigers outscored
Novinger 28-18 in the 4th quarter. Novinger advanced to the
second round by a score of 72-60. Jacob Shipman and Kale Watson
were in double digits with 22 and 21 points. Andrew Linhart had
9, Tyler Killen had 6, and David Anderson had 2 points. Novinger
was paced by Grant Daniels with 30, Justin Denton had 19, Evan
Sthole had 7, Adam Greathouse had 6, and Dakota Jacques and Josh
Denton each had 5 points.
