Brashear Tigers Visit Green City Gophers Tuesday

Both teams looked to improve their standings in the Tri-County Conference.

The Brashear Tigers boys team gave their fans their money's worth in the excitement department in their matchup with the Green City Gophers. The Tigers scored first and played very competitive ball through the early minutes. Green City started to put some quick points on the board late in the 1st quarter jumping out to a 17-10 first quarter lead. Green City extended that lead to 31-20 at half-time. In the third quarter, Brashear showed some life pulling within 35-30 midway through the quarter before Green City pulled away 48-35 at the end of 3. Brashear made another charge in the 4th quarter pulling within 52-48 with 3 minutes left. Both teams missed scoring opportunities in the last minutes, but as time ticked down under a minute, Brashear was forced to foul allowing Green City to extend their lead for the 55-48 win. Kale Watson was the leading scorer for Brashear with 16 points followed by Jacob Shipman with 12, Andrew Linhart with 9, Tyler Killen with 4, Justin Hazen with 3, and Kiley Watson and Ryan Ferdig with 2 points each. For Green City, Matt Ayers led with 20, Austin Gray had 17, Jeremiah Tarver had 11, Sam Jacobs had 6, and Jesse Estrada had 1 point.

In the girl's game, Brashear scored first, but saw their lead slip away by the end of the 1st quarter for a score of 12-8. 11 2nd quarter points for the Lady Gophers compared to 5 for the Lady Tigers put Brashear into a 23-13 hole at halftime. Brashear played a more competitive game in the 2nd half, but still trailed 49-34 at the final buzzer. Kimberly Elsea and Christina Scudder were in double digits for the Lady Tigers with 12 and 10 points, Jessi Hill and Hailee Kelsey each had 4 points, ChaRae Cole had 3 points, and Chelsey Collop scored 1 point. Green City's top scorer was Chloe Phillips with 16, followed by Chelsea Rouse with 15, Becky Rouse with 6, Cortney Holt with 5, Jamie Rouse, Malena Pope, and Amy Denham with 2 each, and Vanessa Foster with 1 point.

Brashear will host Canton in non-conference play Friday night.
