Brashear Splits Basketball Doubleheader With LaPlata Tuesday
The Lady Tigers improved their Tri-County Conference record to
1-1 while the Tigers dropped to 0-2.
After starting their season with a 6 game road trip, the Tigers
were glad to finally be on their home court. For the Lady Tigers,
4 of the 6 games had been in Novinger's gym with 2 of those games
against host Novinger. During that stretch, Brashear had gone 2-4
and were hungry for a win. When LaPlata visited Brashear Tuesday
night, the Lady Tigers wasted no time jumping out to an early
lead of 11-6 after the first quarter. They extended their lead to
22-15 by half-time. During the 2nd half, LaPlata started to show
some signs of life, beating Brashear's press for some easy
buckets and tying the game midway through the 4th quarter.
Brashear's ChaRae Cole wasn't about to let the Tiger season
opener go to waste scoring 7 4th quarter points to put the game
away for good. The final margin of victory was 49-37. ChaRae Cole
led all scorers with 12 points, Jessi Hill and Kimberly Elsea
each had 10, Hailee Kelsey scored 9, Christina Scudder had 6, and
Chelsey Collop scored 2 points. LaPlata was led by Justine Bane
with 11, followed by Michelle Pickens and Alethea Hansen with 6
each, Caitlyn Safely, Kelcey Williams, and Eden Meade each had 4,
and Lindsey Kimmel scored 2 points.
The boys game was an extremely fast paced, high scoring game.
LaPlata came out strong and put up an 18-4 lead on their way to
scoring 33 1st quarter points. However, Brashear showed they
could put up some points of their own only trailing by 5, 33-26
at the end of the first quarter. Brashear stayed within about 5
points most of the way through the 2nd quarter before a flurry of
LaPlata buckets allowed them to extend their lead to 47-35 going
into half-time. The 2nd half was all LaPlata with the Bulldogs
eventually winning by a margin of 88-55. LaPlata made 18
3-pointers on the night with Brashear hitting 5 of their own. If
you enjoy watching a good offensive basketball game, you would
not have been disappointed with this one. Jacob Shipman led
Brashear with 16 points followed closely by Kale Watson with 15.
Kale Moore added 6 points, Josiah Belzer had 5, Kiley Watson had
4, David Anderson had 3 points, and Andrew Linhart, Justin Hazen,
and Ryan Ferdig each had 2 points. David Fouch led LaPlata with
23 points, Matt Fouch and Jordan Smith each had 20, Jesse
Schrader put in 9 points, Curtis Bunch had 6, Dusty Baker and
Nick Lovingier each had 4 points, and Joe Myers had 2 points.
Brashear travels to Milan Thursday night in non-conference
action.
