Brashear Tiger Basketball Teams Visit Milan Thursday
The Brashear basketball teams completed the 2005 part of their
schedule with mixed results. One Tiger team went home with a
Christmas present, the other with a lump of coal.
Brashear and Milan had already faced off once this season meeting
in the Novinger Tournament. During those encounters, the Lady
Tigers had pulled off a 1 point win while the Tigers had taken a
1 point loss. Both Tiger teams were hoping to go into the
Christmas break with wins, but only the girls managed to get a
win.
The Lady Tigers got off to a strong start running up a 22-14 lead
at half-time. Things got more interesting in the 2nd half as
Milan made some adjustments and managed to run the floor for some
fast break points. Brashear still continued to stifle Milan's
half-court game fairly well. As the score grew closer, Milan
turned up the heat with a half-court press forcing several
Brashear turnovers. Ultimately, the extra pressure led to too
many Milan fouls and Lady Tiger senior ChaRae Cole made Milan pay
by hitting 4 straight free throws late in the game to seal the
victory 35-32. Kimberly Elsea was top scorer for Brashear with 12
points. ChaRae Cole had 8 points, as did Christina Scudder who
also pulled down 14 rebounds. Hailee Kelsey had 5 points on the
night and Chelsey Collop added 2 points. Milan was led by Sam
Shaw with 12, Whitley Schnelle put in 9, Trisha Bohle had 7, and
Brooke Bankus and Mary Von Ingen had 2 each. The Lady Tigers are
now 4-4.
The Tigers got off to a good start running up a 13-5 lead after 1
quarter. The second and third quarters were disastrous for the
Tigers with Milan outscoring them 16-2 and 15-8 leaving the
Tigers behind 36-23 after 3 quarters. When all seemed lost,
Brashear sophomore Jacob Shipman stepped up in the 4th quarter
scoring 17 of his game high 22 points. Brashear's 26 point 4th
quarter wasn't quite enough in the end with Milan holding on for
the 50-47 win. Jacob Shipman led Brashear with 22, Andrew Linhart
had 10, Kale Watson scored 7 points, Ryan Ferdig had 4, and
Justin Hazen and Tyler Killen each had 2 points. Andy Herington
led Milan with 15 followed by Vance Proffitt with 14. Cody
Gregson had 9, Derek Leppin scored 7, Jake Patterman had 3, and
Steven McCully put in 2 points. Both Tiger teams will face Knox
County January 3rd.
