Brashear Tigers and Lady Tigers Both Face Atlanta Wednesday at
North Shelby
Tri-County Conference foes Brashear and Atlanta met in 2nd round
tournament action at North Shelby. All 4 teams were trying to
make it to the Consolation games Friday after 1st round loses.
The Brashear and Atlanta girls had both had bad luck in their
first round games in the North Shelby Tournament Monday night
landing them in the Consolation side of the bracket. When the
game started, it looked like Brashear was determined not to let
another game slip away grabbing a quick lead which they
maintained going into half-time up 19-15. The Lady Tigers had an
even stronger 2nd half, outscoring Atlanta 26 - 9 for a final
margin of victory of 45-24. Kimberly Elsea led all scorers
putting in 23 for Brashear. ChaRae Cole added 9, Christina
Scudder and Hailee Kelsey each scored 4, Ashley Clarkson had 3,
and Chelsey Collop scored 2 points. For Atlanta, Beth Voss scored
10 points, Tiffany Watson had 7, Joni Ahern had 3, and Janessa
Thurman and Stacie Sagaser each scored 2 points. Brashear will
play at 7:00 Friday for Consolation and Atlanta will play at 4:00
Friday for 7th place.
The boy's consolation bracket game was all Atlanta with the
Hornets outscoring the Tigers every quarter except the 4th.
Atlanta had jumped out to a 43-21 lead at half-time and went on
to a 71-42 victory. Kale Watson and Jacob Shipman were both in
double figures for the Tigers with 11 and 10 points. Andrew
Linhart had 8 points, Shane Miller had 6, Trae Treasure had 5,
and Tyler Killen scored 2 points. Atlanta had 3 players in double
figures. Josey Garnett led with 21, Cole Thurman had 19, Javaun
West had 12, Justin Miller scored 8, Cambre Thrasher had 7, James
Vanlue had 2, and Cody Miller and Ryan Bogeart each had 1 point.
Atlanta will play for Consolation at 8:30 Friday and Brashear
will play for 7th place 5:30 Friday.
In other Wednesday night action, Scotland County girls held off
the Schuyler County girls 68-64 to advance to the girls
Championship game Saturday. The LaPlata boys upset host North
Shelby 51-48 to advance to the boys Championship game Saturday.
