Brashear Lady Tigers Take Consolation at North Shelby
Bad weather postponed Friday night's Consolation games until
Saturday. 7th place games were cancelled.
The Lady Tigers had their work cut out for them Saturday. Facing
the North Shelby Lady Raiders on their home court is never an
enviable task and there was a Consolation trophy on the line
making the stakes even higher. Brashear had started the week with
a tough 1st round 2-point loss to Schuyler County before bouncing
back with a big win over the Atlanta Hornets on Wednesday. As the
game began, both teams had scoring opportunities, but no points
to show for it. The ice was finally broken almost 3 minutes into
the contest when Christina Scudder got Brashear on the board with
a bucket in the paint. North Shelby wasted no time answering and
a close see-saw battle was on. The two sides traded buckets and
the lead throughout the 1st half with Brashear taking a 21-20
lead into half-time. During the 3rd period, Brashear gained a
little breathing room stretching the lead out to 34-28.
Throughout the game as North Shelby concentrated on shutting down
Lady Tiger shooters ChaRae Cole and Kimberly Elsea, Jessi Hill
was quietly finding the open spots and knocking down baskets.
Cole and Elsea were not to be denied their points in the 4th
quarter however. With time slipping away, North Shelby was forced
to foul sending Cole and Elsea to the line for 5 points each in
the 4th quarter. When the final buzzer sounded, Brashear had held
off the Lady Raider's late charge to pick up the 46-37 victory.
Three Lady Tigers scored in double figures with Jessi Hill
leading the way with 12 points, followed by Kimberly Elsea and
ChaRae Cole with 11 each. Christina Scudder had 6 points, Hailee
Kelsey had 4 points and Ashley Clarkson scored 2 points. Kelsey
and Scudder also teamed up for 9 and 8 rebounds on the night. For
North Shelby, Haley Caldwell had 13 points, Allison Peoples and
Robin Bichsel had 6 each, Kelsey Resa and Randi Willey had 4
each, Kayla Donath had 3, and Lauren McCoy had 1 point.
