Brashear Lady Tigers Upset Milan In Novinger Tournament First Round Action
The 5th seeded Lady Tigers edged the 4th seeded Lady Wildcats
Monday while the 8th seeded Tigers fell to 1st seeded Green City.
Brashear's Christina Scudder scored the first and last points of
the game Monday night against Milan in a close, hard-fought game.
Even though Brashear got on the board first, Milan took the lead
late in the 1st quarter and it was a see-saw battle most of the
game. Milan managed a late surge in the 4th quarter to tie the
game at 31 all, but Scudder's free throw with under 5 seconds
left broke the tie. Milan managed to get the ball down the floor
for a last second desperation shot, but it fell short preserving
Brashear's victory 32-31. Hailee Kelsey had a big night leading
Brashear with 13 points, followed by Scudder with 9, ChaRae Cole
with 6, and Kimberly Elsea and Chelsey Collop with 2 points each.
Trisha Bohle led Milan with 11, followed by Whitley Schnelle with
10 points.
Brashear will face 1st seeded Green City Wednesday night at 7:00
p.m. in the Championship semi-finals. Green City defeated Grundy
County 55-9 earlier Monday evening. Milan will face Grundy County
Wednesday at 4:30 in Consolation semi-finals.
In boys' action, the 8th seeded Brashear Tigers were no match for
1st seeded Green City who cruised to a 74-35 win. The Tigers
stayed in the game early only trailing 19-10 at the end of the
1st quarter. The 2nd quarter was a different story however, with
Green City outscoring Brashear by a margin of 24-4 effectively
burying the Tigers. Kale Watson led Brashear with 18 points,
Jacob Shipman scored 10, Kale Moore had 3, and Andrew Linhart and
David Anderson each had 2 points. Jeremiah Tarver led the way for
Green City with 29 points.
The Brashear boys will face Milan Wednesday night at 8:15 p.m. in
Consolation semi-finals. Milan had fallen to Grundy County 52-36
earlier Monday. Green City will face Grundy County Wednesday at
5:45 in the Championship semi-finals.
