Brashear Suffers a Pair of Losses in Novinger Tournament.

The Tigers made a huge comeback effort only to come up one point short against Milan. The Lady Tigers couldn't pull their second upset of the tournament falling to 1st seeded Green City.

The Brashear boys looked like they might be the comeback story of the tournament Wednesday night when they faced off against Milan. After Milan started the game with a blistering 11-0 scoring run, Brashear managed to settle down to the task of trying to overcome the deficit. By halftime, Milan still was holding a 26-16 lead, with Brashear suffering from some extremely cold shooting. The second half started to look like a totally different ballgame with Brashear gradually chipping away at Milan's lead. By the middle of the 4th quarter it was clear that it was anybody's game. As the final minutes played out, the Tigers made a great run, but ultimately fell short by one point, 47-46. For Brashear, Kale Watson scored 20 with Jacob Shipman adding 19 points. Andrew Linhart added 3, and Josiah Belzer and David Anderson had 2 points each. Vance Proffitt led the way for Milan with 19 points. Andy Herrington and Derek Leppin each had 7, Cody Gregson had 6, Jake Patterson had 4, and Jaci Arellano and Steven McCully each scored 2 points. Milan now advances to the Consolation game Friday.

In the girls' championship semi-final game, Brashear got off to a quick start running up a 6-2 lead. Green City quickly responded with 3 buckets of their own taking the lead 8-6. Brashear was able to tie the game at 8 before another Green City run had Brashear down 13-8 late in the 1st quarter. From that point on, Brashear was unable to close the gap, with Green City taking a 22-16 lead into halftime. The Lady Tigers actually outscored the Lady Gophers in the second half, but only by 1 point leaving them down 40-35 at games end. Hailee Kelsey had 11 points for Brashear, Kimberly Elsea had 6, Jessi Hill and Christina Scudder scored 5 each, and ChaRae Cole and Chelsey Collop each had 4 points. For Green City, Courtney Holt, Becky Rouse, and Chelsea Rouse led the way with 12, 10, and 8 points respectively. Malena Pope added 6 points, and Cloe Phillips scored 4 points. Green City now advances to the Championship game Saturday and Brashear will play for 3rd place Friday.
