Brashear Tournament Monday Night Action

In a repeat of an early January matchup, Brashear and Knox County split while Douglass falls to Novinger.

After a pair of tough losses to Green City and Canton last week, the Brashear Lady Tigers were anxious to get off to a good start in their home tournament. They had already won a January 3rd game against the Knox County Lady Eagles and hoped to repeat the result. Knox County jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, but Brashear kept hanging around finally tying the game 9-9 midway through the 2nd quarter. By halftime, Brashear had pulled ahead for a 16-12 lead. The Lady Tigers extended their lead to 27-16 after 3 quarters only to see Knox County mount a charge that brought them within 4 points before the Lady Tigers finally prevailed 40-34. In the boys matchup between Brashear and Knox County, Brashear dug them selves into a huge hole in the early going trailing 19-6 at the end of the first. The second quarter didn't get any better, and Knox powered their way to a 31-10 halftime lead. Brashear was able to make up some ground during the 3rd quarter outscoring Knox 14-10, but that proved too little too late as Knox County coasted to a 55-31 win. Jacob Shipman and Kale Watson each had 8 points for Brashear, Andrew Linhart had 5, Justin Hazen and Tyler Killen each had 4, and Kiley Watson had 2 points. In the other 1st round game, the Novinger Boys ran up a 31-18 halftime lead over Douglass.
