Brashear Takes 3rd at the Atlanta Varsity Softball Tournament
Saturday
Lady Tigers go 2-1 improving to 2-3 on the season.
The Lady Tigers weren't too optimistic about their chances of
getting to play ball Saturday as they left Brashear in the rain.
Luckily a few miles can make a big difference in the weather and
Atlanta's field was ready for action when they arrived. The first
game of the day pitted Brashear against host Atlanta. Brashear
got off to a fast start in the 1st inning when doubles by Jessi
Hill and Christina Scudder and singles by Andrea Reeves and
Ashley Clarkson staked Brashear to a 3-0 lead. Brashear went on
to an eventual 8-3 win. Christina Scudder lead the offensive
charge with 3 hits and Andrea Reeves had 2 hits. Jessi Hill,
Kimberly Elsea, Shanea Rusk, and
Ashley Clarkson each had hits in the win.
In the second game of the day, Brashear faced off against
undefeated Schuyler County. Schuyler put up a couple of quick
runs in the 1st with a couple of bloop hits. The game remained a
2-0 stalemate until a combination of poor Brashear defense, a
walk, and a triple by Schuyler County's Tensel Sandker broke the
game open as Schuyler plated 4 in the 5th. Brashear managed to
score 3 in the 6th and 1 in the seventh, but after holding
Schuyler in the 6th, Brashear suffered a 5 run meltdown in the
7th falling to Schuyler by a score of 11-4. Jessi Hill, Christina
Scudder, Shanea Rusk, Ashley Clarkson, Carmen Woods, and Hailee
Kelsey all had hits in the losing effort for Brashear.
After the disappointing loss in the Schuyler County semi-final
game, the Lady Tigers were fired up for their 3rd place game
against conference foe Novinger. Brashear jumped out to a 7-0 1st
inning lead and never looked back in the 15-0 3-inning win.
Pitchers Shanea Rusk and Christina Scudder combined to hold
Novinger hitless facing only 10 batters with Novinger's only
baserunner reaching on an error.
Brashear will visit Macon County for a baseball/softball
conference double header Thursday August 31.
