Mary Immaculate Hawks at Brashear Thursday
The 7th and 8th grade girls basketball team from Mary Immaculate pulled out a hard-fought win last week against Brashear, but Brashear was ready to even the score.
In last week's intense battle between the Lady Hawks and Lady Tigers, both teams traded the lead during the game with Mary Immaculate winning 28-23. Thursday night was another nail biter as Mary Immaculate took a 5-3 1st quarter lead only to have Brashear come back to take a 10-9 lead going into halftime. Brashear pulled out to a 21-15 lead after 3 quarters but that wasn't enough for comfort. With a little over 2 minutes left in the game, Mary Immaculate had closed the gap to 23-20 and MI's Chloe Wichmann was fouled making the shot and the free throw to tie the game at 23 all. Brashear's Macy Rogers then ended up on the line twice in the last 2 minutes sinking 4 straight free throws to give Brashear the lead back for good for a 27-23 win. Shelby Rogers led Brashear with 12, followed by Macy Rogers with 6, Stephanie Elsea and Sydney Slavin who each scored 4, and Abby McKim with 1 point. Chloe Wichmann poured in 14 for the Hawks, Kendyl Blanke had 4, Mary Blesz had 3, and Anna Wiskirchen scored 2 points.
