Novinger at Brashear Tuesday

Wildcats and Tigers split a pair of Junior High basketball games.

The Brashear Lady Tigers took the court Tuesday hoping to avenge an early season loss to Novinger. The Lady Tigers took an 8-5 1st quarter lead, only to see Novinger outscore them 11-0 during the 2nd quarter. Brashear came out strong in the 3rd overcoming the 16-8 halftime deficit to pull ahead 19-18 at the end of 3 quarters. The Lady Wildcats weren't ready to give up and outscored Brashear 15-8 in the final frame to get the 33-27 win. For Novinger, Trisha Potter had 10 points, Sara Tallman had 9, Kelsey Potter had 7, Becca White scored 3, and Renatta Blackorby and KaCei Lindquist each had 2 points. Brashear was led by Shelby Rogers with 11, Macy Rogers, Ashley Collop, and Emily Ladwig each scored 4, and Sydney Slavin and Abby McKim had 2 points each.

In the boys game, Brashear lead 9-8 after one and extended their lead to 20-14 by halftime. Brashear continued to hold a modest 25-20 lead after three, but Novinger made a comeback run in the final quarter. Four clutch free throws, and a couple of timely buckets iced the game for Brashear by a score of 37-30. Anthony Ambrosia led Brashear with 15 despite limited playing time due to 4 1st-half fouls. Hayden Coin scored 10, Adam Songer had 6, Cody Snelling had 3 points, Nick Thomas had 2 and Daniel Smith scored 1 point. The top scorer for Novinger was Tell Ruggles with 22. Nick Billington added 4, and Tyler Daniels and Brandon Baird each had 2 points.

Brashear will wrap up their regular season on the road at Linn County Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and will be playing in the Atlanta Tournament next week. Brashear's B squads will visit LaPlata Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
