Atlanta JH Basketball Tournament 2nd Round Results
Novinger and Brashear girls and LaPlata and Bevier boys advance to championship games.
In Wednesday night girls action, Novinger defeated LaPlata 31-17 and Green City beat Bevier 24-20. In Thursday night girls action, Brashear won over Atlanta 38-23 and Bucklin beat Macon County 22-14. Green City will face Bucklin Friday at 6:00 p.m. in the consolation game, LaPlata will play Atlanta Friday at 8:00 p.m. in the 3rd place game, and Novinger will face Brashear Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in the championship game.
In Wednesday night boys action, LaPlata beat Bucklin 48-31 and Atlanta beat Novinger 27-18. On Thursday night Bevier bested Macon County 43-27 and Green City edged Brashear 36-35. Atlanta will play Green City Friday at 7:00 p.m. for consolation. Bucklin will face Macon County Saturday at 6:00 p.m. for 3rd place, and LaPlata and Bevier will square off at 8:00 p.m. Saturday for the championship.
In the Brashear-Atlanta girls game Thursday, a scrappy Atlanta stayed close through the first half with Brashear taking a slim 18-15 lead into half. Brashear played a stronger 2nd half pulling away for a 38-23 win to advance to Saturday's 1st place game. Brashear was led by Macy Rogers with 22 points. Emily Ladwig had 8, Shelby Rogers had 4, and Stephanie Elsea and Sydney Slavin each had 2 points. Atlanta's top scorer was Amanda Spearman with 8. Tasheia Brookhart had 6 points, Sammy Halley had 5, and Lindsey Rhoades and Shelby Tipton each had 2 points.
The Brashear-Green City boys game was a nail-biter. After Brashear had fallen behind 13-7 at the end of the 1st, they fought back to take a 22-16 lead into the locker room. Green City answered with a strong 3rd quarter retaking the lead 30-28. Brashear was able to outscore Green City 7-6 in the final frame, but that left the Tigers 1 point short losing to Green City 36-35. Brashear's Anthony Ambrosia led all scorers with 23. Cody Snelling added 8, and Hayden Coin and Nick Thomas had 2 points each. For Green City, Dylan Brundage scored 22, Christopher Hoermann had 10, and Cody Holt and Jacob Hubbard had 2 points each.
