Novinger Tournament Monday Night Results
Green City and Brashear girls and Brashear and LaPlata boys all advance in winners bracket.
In Monday night action at the Novinger Tournament, the top seeded Green City girls made quick work of #8 Grundy County by a score of 70-15. The top seeded LaPlata boys also cruised to an easy 74-24 win over the #8 Milan boys.
In the other boys game, #5 Brashear pulled a mild upset defeating #4 Grundy County by a score of 61-46. Brashear jumped out to a 16-9 lead after the first quarter and led 28-23 at half-time. Grundy closed to within 3 at 39-36 at the end of the third quarter before Brashear put up a 22 point 4th quarter to seal the win. For Brashear, Justin Hazen scored 19, Jacob Shipman had 14, Matt Thomas had 12, Kale Watson had 10, Ryan Ferdig scored 4, and Kiley Watson had 2 points. Kyle Larson led Grundy County with 18, Logan Jackson had 16, Colby Searcy scored 4, and Nick Lentz, Tyler Jackson, Adam Buckner, and Rob Crawford each scored 2 points.
In the other girls game, Brashear jumped out to a 15-9 lead after one quarter and extended their lead to 26-15 at half-time. The scoring pace slowed during the third quarter with Brashear leading 32-19 going into the final frame. The pace picked up during the 4th quarter with Milan making a 12 point charge. Brashear answered with 10 4th quarter points of their own to take the victory 42-31. Kimberly Elsea had 15 for Brashear followed by Hailee Kelsey with 9, Ashley Clarkson and Jessi Hill with 6 each, Christina Scudder with 5, and Chelsey Collop with 1 point. For Milan, Carly Bohle had 11, Kayla Fleshman scored 7, Cara Curtis had 5, Brooke Bankus had 4, Whitley Schnelle had 3, and Mary van Ingen had 1 point.
