Brashear Hosts Milan Thursday, December 14.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers go into the Christmas break with a pair of wins.
Kimberly Elsea has been waiting patiently. After averaging 17 points per game over the last 5 games including a 24-point performance against LaPlata Tuesday, she was ready for someone to step up and help with the offense. With the Lady Tigers down 8-2 in the early going, Elsea shouldered the load one more time, firing in 3 straight 3 pointers to ignite a run that would put Brashear ahead for good. With the offense finally clicking, help arrived in a big way as Hailee Kelsey came on strong to pump in 12 1st half points staking Brashear to a 31-24 halftime lead. Christina Scudder came on strong with 12 second-half points to ice the Brashear victory 53-38. Kelsey, Scudder, and Elsea were all in double figures with 16, 14, and 11 points. Chelsey Collop added 8, and Ashley Clarkson and Emily Ladwig had 2 points each. Brooke Bankus had a very strong outing for Milan with 18 points. Kayla Fleshman and Carly Bohle had 7 each, and Whitley Schnelle, Cara Curtis, and Mary VanIngen had 2 points each.
The boys' game was a fast-paced hard-fought contest. Both teams turned up the defensive pressure and Milan was able to hold all of the Tigers except one to 21 1st-half points. The one Tiger Milan had no answer for was Justin Hazen who absolutely scorched the nets with 5 3-pointers and 3 2-points in the first half. Hazen's 21 point 1st-half performance buried Milan 42-27 at halftime and they were never able to recover. Even though the game was hotly contested all the way to the finish, the Tigers were able to maintain their lead and picked up the win 74-54. Hazen lead a trio of Tigers in double figures with 24. Ryan Ferdig and Jacob Shipman had 12, and 11 points. Kale Watson added 9, Matt Thomas had 6, Kiley Watson had 5, David Anderson scored 3, and Koty Hayden and Trae Treasure had 2 points each. Milan's Bryce Richardson led the Wildcats with 23, Logan Hill had 10, Derek Leppin scored 7, Steve McCully had 6, Jake Patterson and Jerick Schrock had 3 each, and Codie Peterie had 2 points.
