Brashear Hosts Knox County Tuesday

The Tigers and Eagles start the new year with a split.

The Brashear Lady Tigers and the Knox County Lady Eagles faced off Tuesday at Brashear. Both teams looked a little rusty after the Christmas break, but Brashear got loosened up and took a 14-8 lead after one quarter and carried a 27-20 lead into halftime. Although Knox County played hard in the 2nd half, they were unable to close the gap as Brashear picked up the 50-40 win. Kimberly Elsea led Brashear with 20 points. Hailee Kelsey had 9, Ashley Clarkson had 6, Jessi Hill, Chelsey Collop, and Christina Scudder had 4 each, Emily Ladwig had 2, and Ashley Collop scored 1 point. For Knox County, Tessa Ramer and Lorrie Peters each had 10 points, Morgan Nunan had 9, Kisha Tungate scored 5, Amanda Woods had 4, and Jessie Stout had 2 points.

The first quarter of the boys game was evenly matched ending in a 12-12 tie. Knox County put up another 12 in the 2nd quarter, but Brashear had a disastrous 2nd quarter scoring only 3. Things didn't look very good for the Tiger fans after halftime either as Knox County held a 39-27 lead after 3 quarters. If anyone left early, they missed a very exciting comeback attempt in the 4th quarter. During a less than 1 minute period midway through the 4th quarter, Brashear's Kiley Watson went to the line 6 times sinking all 6 and bringing the Tigers to within 4, 42-28 with 3 minutes left. As time grew short, Brashear was forced to foul and Knox was able to make 9 out of 12 free throws in the 4th quarter. Brashear pulled within 3 on a Jacob Shipman free throw and again on a Justin Hazen 3-pointer and pulled within 2 on a Kale Watson 3-pointer as time ticked down, but Knox was able to hold off Brashear's charge for the 52-49 win. Jacob Shipman lead Brashear with 12. Kale Watson added 11, Kiley Watson had 10, Ryan Ferdig had 8, Justin Hazen had 6, and Matt Thomas had 2 points. For Knox County, Dennis Dent had 17, Zach Parrish had 10, Cory Shultz and Daniel McMahon had 8 each, Shane Clouse scored 4, Ethan Hustead had 3, and Tyson Ausmus had 2 points.
