Green City Visits Brashear Tuesday Night
The #2 state ranked Lady Gophers and the #10 state ranked Gophers both pick up wins.
The Brashear Lady Tigers get a unique opportunity this week. They get to face 2 state-ranked teams. On Tuesday they host the Class 1 number 2 ranked team from Green City, and on Friday they visit Canton who is ranked #2 in Class 2. On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers looked like they might be up to the task of upsetting the rankings as they jumped out to a 6-2 lead. Green City quickly showed why they haven't lost a game this year as they put on a 10-0 run and ended the 1st quarter with a 12-9 lead. Brashear wasn't ready to give up yet as they batteled back to go into halftime down by only 18-17. The third quarter was a stalemate with each team scoring 9 points. Green City extended their lead to 6 early in the 4th, but a 3-pointer by Brashear's Kimberly Elsea knotted the score at 38 all with 2:30 left. Neither team could break the tie until a pair of Becky Rouse free throws put Green City up 40-38 with a little over a minute left. Green City held on to get the win 42-38. Kimberly Elsea had 13 for Brashear, Chelsey Collop had 8, Hailee Kelsey had 7, Jessi Hill had 6, and Christina Scudder scored 4 points. For Green City, Cloe Phillips had 15, Chelsea Rouse had 10, Jamie Rouse had 5, Becky Rouse and Amy Denham had 4 each and Mirande Brinsa and Lindsey Snyder scored 2 points each.
In the boys' game, Green City outscored Brashear 13-7 and 18-13 in the 1st and 3rd quarters. The Tigers had a better 2nd quarter going into halftime down by 23-16. The Tigers and Gophers each had 10 points in the 4th, but that left Brashear down by a margin of 51-39 at the end of the game. Ryan Ferdig led Brashear with 15, Jacob Shipman added 11 Trae Treasure had 5, and Kiley Watson and Kale Watson scored 4 points each. For Green City, Jeremiah Tarver had 22, Matt Ayers had 17, and Jesse Estrada and Jeb Jacobs scored 6 points each.
