Brashear Drops a Pair in Their Home Opener With Scotland County
Softball was supposed to begin for Brashear August 20th, but rain postponed games with Scotland County and Linn County and cancelled the Atlanta Tournament. Play finally got underway August 27th with a rescheduled contest with Scotland County. The Scotland County squad came in with 2 games under their belts and as the game played out, they looked a lot more solid in their play. Scotland County plated a run in the 1st, but Brashear answered with a run of their own on a leadoff single by Jessi Hill and an RBI single by Christina Scudder. The game remained 1-1 until the 4th inning when a string of Brashear miscues allowed Scotland County to score 6 runs. Brashear never threatened after that point, but did pick up another run in the 6th after Abby McKim walked and was driven in by a Sydney Slavin sacrifice. Jessi Hill, Hailee Kelsey, and Carmen Woods each had hits and Christina Scudder had a pair of hits for Brashear. Scudder pitched and took the loss striking out 7 and giving up 6 hits. Oldham, Dochterman, Wickert, and Cottan each had hits for Scotland County. Scotland County is now 1-2 on the season and Brashear is 0-1.
In the JV game, Scotland County took an early 2-0 lead. Brashear battled back to take a 4-2 lead before falling 17-5 to Scotland County. Abby McKim and Carmen Woods each had hits for Brashear. Emily Ladwig pitched and took the loss.
Brashear will host Macon County in a conference baseball/softball double-header Thursday August 30th.
