Brashear at Linn County August 31
The conference rival Tigers and Mustangs squared off in a baseball-softball double-header Friday. The Tiger teams prevailed with a pair of wins.
The Brashear Lady Tigers batted 1st to start their game and quickly put up a pair of runs on a Jessi Hill walk, a Carmen Woods double and a Christina Scudder triple. Linn County quickly answered in the bottom of the 1st with 3 runs of their own. It was starting to look like it might be a high scoring game when Brashear tied the game at 3-all in the top of the second and Linn County answered in their half of the inning with 2 more runs. From that point on, Brashear’s pitching and defense tightened their belts and went to work allowing no hits and only 1 more batter than the minimum to reach the plate for the last 5 innings. In the meantime, Brashear kept adding runs every inning except the 6th to seal the 8-5 win. Jessi Hill, Emily Ladwig, and Abby McKim each singled, Carmen Woods and Sydney Slavin hit doubles, Hailee Kelsey had a pair of singles, and Christina Scudder had a triple and 2 doubles. Scudder picked up the win on the mound. The Lady Tigers are now 2-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Tri-County Conference.
The baseball game was decided in the 1st inning when Brashear scored 10 runs on the way to a 16-4 win. Matt Thomas went to work on the mound for Brashear holding the Mustangs scoreless in 3 of the first 4 innings and fanning 8. The exception was the 3rd when Linn County rallied for 4 runs. Kale Watson came on in the 5th to close out the game. The highlight of Brashear’s 1st inning outburst was a homerun by Ryan Ferdig who also had a single on the night. Koty Hayden had 3 singles, Jacob Shipman and Michael McKim had triples, and Matt Thomas, Justin Hazen, and Cody Snelling each had a pair of singles. Brashear is now 2-0 on the season and in the Tri-County Conference.
The Tiger’s next games are Tuesday when they host Novinger.
