Green City JH Basketball Tournament October 11, 2007

In girls' action, Brashear and Novinger advance to finals, Green City and LaPlata boys also advance.

Thursday night marked the start of the 22nd Annual Green City Junior High Basketball Tournament and the Brashear Lady Tigers came ready to play. Things started off slowly with both teams applying a lot of defensive pressure and Brashear holding a 6-4 lead after 1 quarter. The Lady Tigers broke the game open in the 2nd quarter taking a 23-8 lead into half-time. Brashear lead 31-14 after 3 quarters before Green City closed the gap a little in the 4th. Brashear picked up the win by a final score of 38-24. Macy Rogers had 15 for Brashear, Shelby Rogers had 14, Shelby Salter added 5 points, and Katie Smith and Sydney Slavin had 2 points each. Jourdan High led Green City with 8, Maren Hatcher had 6, Shelby Billington and Annie Thomas each chipped in 4, and Jammie Berry scored 2 points.

The Brashear boys didn't fare as well against Green City who jumped out to an 18-0 lead after 1 period and a 22-3 lead at half-time. The Tigers finally got a few things sorted out after the half scoring the first 6 points of the 3rd quarter, however Green City still maintained a 33-16 lead after 3 quarters. Green City found the range again in the 4th downing Brashear by a score of 48-18. Cody Snelling had 5 points for Brashear, Adam Songer and Taren Treasure added 4 each, Nick Thomas had 3, and Jay Scudder scored 2 points. Green City was paced by Cody Holt with 12 points, Christopher Hoermann had 11, Garrett King chipped in 10, Brandon Pearson scored 7, Grant Kilgore had 6, and Aaron Conner scored 2 points.

In the 1st game of the evening, the Novinger girls prevailed over LaPlata 34-22. The LaPlata boys defeated Novinger 49-18 in the 2nd game. Brashear and Novinger will meet in the girls' championship game and Green City and LaPlata will meet in the girls' 3rd place game. The Green City and LaPlata boys will square off in the title game, and Brashear will face Novinger in the boys' 3rd place game.
