Brashear at Novinger Wednesday September 10, 2008
The Tigers pick up a pair of conference wins in a softball/baseball double-header.
The Lady Tigers got off to a fast start facing the host Novinger Wildcats. Singles by Cierra Hines and Stephanie Elsea, doubles by Abby McKim and Macy Rogers, a Katie Watson walk, an Ashley Watson, single, and a bases loaded Shelby Rogers hit batsman produced 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning. Brashear held Novinger scoreless until the 3rd inning. Novinger got another run in the 4th and a pair of runs in the 6th. Brashear picked up another run in the 4th when Kristen Love drew a walk, Cierra Hines singled, Abby McKim was hit by a pitch, and Macy Rogers drew a bases loaded walk. Brashear's final run came in the 6th when Cierra Hines and Stephanie Elsea singled, then Abby McKim, and Katie Watson drew walks to force in a run. Brashear led the whole way and picked up the win by a score of 6-4. Macy Rogers went the distance on the mound for Brashear striking out 6. The Lady Tigers are now 4-1 and 2-0 in the Tri-County Conference.
The Tiger baseball squad also got off to a quick start scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st as Matt Thomas singled, Kiley Watson reached on an error and Koty Hayden drove them home. Novinger answered with a run in the bottom of the 1st and another in the 2nd, but trailed the whole way as Brashear scored in every inning of the 5-inning contest. The Tigers picked up another 4 runs in the 2nd as Brandon Gordon and Hayden Coin drew walks. Justin Hazen put down a successful rbi bunt, then Cody Snelling cleared the bases with a 3-rbi homerun. Brashear kept rolling in the 3rd as Gordon and Coin singled, Hazen drew a walk, then Snelling cleared the bases again, this time with a grand slam homer. Matt Thomas followed with a solo home run. In the Tiger 4th, Koty Hayden and Ryan Ferdig led off with back to back home runs. Gordon was hit by a pitch, then erased on a popup double play. Adam Songer walked, Hazen was hit by a pitch, and Snelling followed with an rbi single. In the 5th, Jay Scudder drew a walk, Nick Thomas singled, Mike McKim then followed with a single driving in Scudder. Coin and Songer were hit by pitches, then Dillon Redding followed with a 2-rbi single giving Brashear an 18-2 win. McKim picked up the win going 4 innings with Matt Thomas coming on to pitch a 1-2-3 5th inning in relief. The Tigers are now 2-0 in the Tri-County Conference.
