Brashear at LaPlata Wednesday September 17, 2008

The Brashear Lady Tigers take the softball game, while the host Bulldogs capture the baseball win.

In the softball game, Brashear jumped on the board with 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning only to have LaPlata match that tally in the bottom of the inning. Brashear managed to keep their offense going with 2 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th. They had chances to do even more damage but stranded several runners. LaPlata came up empty in the 2nd and 3rd innings before scoring in the 4th, 5th, and 7th innings. The late offense for LaPlata came up short and Brashear claimed the 12-7 victory. Macy Rogers went the distance on the mound picking up the win for Brashear.

The baseball game was a good pitching matchup with Curtiss Bunch throwing for LaPlata and Matt Thomas taking the mound for Brashear. TheTigers got on the board with a run in the 1st as Justin Hazen drew a leadoff walk, Kiley Watson sacrifice bunted him to 2nd and Cody Snelling drove him in. Brashear held that lead until LaPlata scored a run in the bottom of the 2nd and another in the bottom of the 3rd. The Bulldogs also tacked on an insurance run in the 5th and 2 more in the 6th before Brashear mounted a rally in the top of the 7th. Pinch hitter Nick Thomas walked, Ryan Ferdig doubled, then Hayden Coin got a hit driving in Thomas. Adam Songer drew a walk to load the bases, then with 2 outs, Kiley Watson drove a ball to the right center fence bringing in 2 runs. The tying run was gunned down trying to score on the play allowing LaPlata to escape with a 5-4 win.
