Brashear Tournament February 10, 2009
Both Brashear teams, Knox County girls, and North Shelby boys advance.
In the 1st round game between the Brashear Lady Tigers and the Atlanta Lady Hornets, Brashear established a 16-10 lead by the end of the 1st quarter which they extended to a 34-21 lead by halftime. The Lady Tigers continued to cruise through the 3rd quarter ending with a 49-32 lead, but Atlanta mounted a rally in the 4th. Brashear managed to hold off the late charge and held on for the 58-51 win. Macy Rogers scored 17 points for Brashear, Stephanie Elsea and Emily Ladwig had 10 points each, Shelby Rogers added 7 points, Abby McKim and Caroline Slavin had 5 points each, and Sydney Slavin scored 4 points. For Atlanta, Amanda Spearman scored 23 points, Beth Voss had 11, Shelby Tipton and Carmen McLain had 4 points each, Miranda Hruska, Tasheia Brookhart, Nicole Sloan, and Tricia Poore had 2 points each, and Cassie Graham scored 1 point.
The Brashear boys jumped out to a 23-6 1st quarter lead over the Putnam County JV squad and never looked back. The Tigers were up 48-20 at the half and led 62-32 after 3 quarters on their way to the 74-46 victory. For Brashear, Justin Hazen, Matt Thomas, and Trae Treasure scored 12 points each, Kiley Watson added 10, Anthony Ambrosia had 6 points, Michael McKim, Ryan Ferdig, and Jay Scudder had 4 points each, Cody Snelling and Hayden Coin scored 3 each, and Adam Songer and Zach Reeves each had 2 points. For Putnam County, Cole Young scored 14 points, Justin Fox had 12, Brett Thomas had 10 points, Dillon Crossgrove scored 3, Keaton Hixenbaugh, Josh Dodsworth, and Derek Tribble scored 2 points each, and Cyle Heidenwith scored 1 point.
In other first round action, the Knox County girls downed Putnam County JV 81-30 and the North Shelby boys advanced with a 59-32 win over Atlanta.
