Class 1 Districts at LaPlata Saturday February 28, 2009
Marion County, LaPlata, Madison, and Bevier advance in girls' 1st round play.
Number 4 seed LaPlata and number 5 Brashear faced off Saturday in 1st round district play. LaPlata jumped out to a 12-6 lead after one quarter and led 28-17 at the half. Brashear closed the gap some in the 3rd, but LaPlata still led 44-36. Midway through the 4th quarter Brashear pulled to within 6, but a quick succession of transition buckets allowed LaPlata to pull away for a 64-50 win. Emily Ladwig pace Brashear's scoring with 17 points, Macy Rogers added 10, Caroline Slavin had 8, Stephanie Elsea had 7, Abby McKim had 6, and Shelby Rogers scored 2 points. For LaPlata, Gara Curtis scored 24 points, Emily Snodgrass and Rachel Shahan had 12 points each, Laura Tuggle had 10, Jeana Bane had 4, and Emily Heissler scored 2 points.
In other 1st round girls' games, top seed Marion County downed Macon County 63-15, number 2 Madison topped Atlanta 66-32, and number 3 Bevier advanced with a 61-55 win over Novinger. Boys action begins Monday.
