Novinger at Brashear Tuesday September 8, 2009
The host Tigers sweep a conference baseball/softball double-header.
From the 1st inning on, the Lady Tigers and Lady Wildcats both knew they were in a battle. Novinger quickly put 2 runs on the board in the top of the 1st, but Brashear answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-2 lead only to have Novinger score 2 more in the 2nd to tie the score at 4-4. Novinger retook the lead 5-4 in the 5th, but Brashear scored in the 6th to tie the game at 5-5. Novinger looked like they might get the win when they pulled ahead 6-5 in the 7th, but Brashear's Cierra Hines drove a 2-out, bases loaded double into center field to lift the Lady Tigers to an 8-6 victory. Hines had 3 hits on the night for Brashear, Stephanie Elsea had 2 hits, and Shelby Salter, Katie Watson, and Abby McKim also had hits. Hines was the winning pitcher going the distance for Brashear.
The baseball game looked to be a low-scoring affair in the early innings as a 1st inning homerun by Adam Songer got Brashear on the scoreboard. The Tigers scored another run in the 2nd, but each teams' pitchers and defense held tough with no more scoring through 4 innings. Brashear pushed across another pair of runs in the 5th to gain a little breathing room, then ended the game early by a score of 11-0 with a 6 run 6th inning that featured a Cody Snelling home run. Snelling and Matt Thomas each had 3 hits for the Tigers, Hayden Coin and Nick Thomas had 2 hits each, and Adam Songer, Daniel Smith, Nick Bradshaw, Nick Gordon, and Jay Scudder also had hits. Hayden Coin picked up the win for Brashear getting the shutout while limiting Novinger to a single hit.
