Brashear at Bevier Wednesday September 23, 2009
The Tigers and Wildcats split a Tri-County Conference baseball/softball double-header.
The softball game Wednesday between Brashear and Bevier was a pitcher's duel. Brashear's Cierra Hines allowed only 4 hits while Bevier's Katelyn Tolle threw a 1-hitter. As is often the case in softball, the outcome of a game hinges on mistakes, and defensive miscues by Brashear in the 3rd inning allowed Bevier to score 4 runs to seal a 4-0 win. Stephanie Elsea had the lone hit for Brashear and Cierra Hines took the loss for Brashear.
In the baseball game, Brashear's Matt Thomas threw a 1-hit shutout and hit a 1st inning 2-run homer to drive in the game's winning run. Thomas faced only 23 batters in 7 innings, striking out 18. Cody Snelling and Daniel Smith had 2 hits each for Brashear, and Adam Songer and Hayden Coin also had hits in Brashear's 5-0 victory. This win assures Brashear of at least a share of the Tri-County Conference baseball title.
