Brashear JH Basketball at Bevier October 27, 2009

The Tigers suffer a pair of losses on the road Tuesday.

The girls' game was a low-scoring affair with Bevier holding a 5-2 lead after one quarter and still leading Brashear 9-8 at halftime. Brashear managed to tie the score at 15 all at the end of the 3rd quarter and the game was tied 20-20 until a foul sent Bevier to the free throw line with 6.5 seconds left. Bevier returned the favor by sending Brashear to the line with 0.2 seconds left. The difference in the game, Bevier made both free throws and Brashear made 1 giving Bevier a 22-21 victory. Allison Thompson led Brashear scorers with 9 points with Meredith Thomas adding 8. Miranda Creason and Olivia Thompson also scored 2 points each. For Bevier, Memphis Buster scored 11 points, Beth Ashenfelter had 6, Taylor Hedworth added 4, and Shiloh Wilson scored 1 point.

The boys' game also started out slow offensively, with neither team scoring until almost halfway through the 1st quarter. Once Bevier got on the scoreboard, they wasted no time putting up points pulling out to a commanding 17-0 lead at halftime. Brashear got on the scoreboard with 5 points in the 3rd and another 5 points in the 4th quarter, but it was too little, too late as Bevier coasted to a 30-10 win. Hayden Housman had 5 points for Brashear, with Chance Hill adding 3, and Tristin Smith scoring 2 points. Ashenfelter led Bevier with 13 points, Brett Peukert had 7, Shurvington added 4, and Martin, Aaron Peter, and Basler had 2 points each.
