Atlanta JH Basketball Tournament 1st Round Results

Top Seeded LaPlata Girls and Bevier Boys Advance.

Monday night girls’ action saw 2nd seeded Macon County down Green City 30-22 and 3rd seeded Atlanta topped Bucklin 36-13. On the boys’ side, 2nd seeded Atlanta defeated Green City 48-27 and 6th seeded Bucklin upset 3rd seeded Macon County 29-24.

On Tuesday, the top seeded LaPlata girls had a battle on their hands with 8th seeded Brashear. LaPlata held a slim 7-6 lead after 1 quarter, but Brashear pulled ahead to take a 14-12 lead into halftime. Brashear still led 22-19 after 3 quarters of play and managed to extend the lead in the early going of the 4th quarter, but LaPlata fought back and took the lead for good in the last 2 minutes and held on for a 27-25 win. Brashear scoring was led by Meredith Thomas with 9 points, Allison Thompson had 5, Kayla Snelling and Olivia Thompson had 4 each, and Ashley Moncrief scored 3 points. For LaPlata, Beth Hays scored 9 points, Morgan Kimmel added 6, Molley Safely and Erin Boren had 5 each, and Taylor Snodgrass scored 2 points.

The first seeded Bevier boys had only a 10-7 lead over Brashear after 1 quarter, but extended the lead to 31-13 at halftime. Bevier continued to dominate in the 3rd quarter for a 45-17 lead on their way to a 50-27 win. Hayden Housman paced Brashear with 8 points, Jacob Reeves had 5, Chance Hill and Sam Smith scored 4 each, and Austin Alexander, Jeremy Barnes, and Nick Bradshaw scored 2 points each. For Bevier, Aaron Peter scored 17 points, Brett Peukert had 13, Seth Shurvington had 7, Jesse Ashenfelter scored 5, Jean Fiquet had 4, Jonathan Basler had 3, and Dewayne Carlson scored 1 point.

In other Tuesday games, the 4th seeded Novinger girls advanced with a 35-19 win over Bevier and the 4th seeded Novinger boys downed LaPlata 25-20.
