2009 Novinger Tournament Final Results
Scotland County Girls and LaPlata Boys finish on top.
On Friday night, the Brashear and Grundy County girls started the night with the 7th place game. Brashear started the game with a 10-0 run and established a 29-15 lead by halftime. Scoring was more evenly matched in the second half allowing Brashear to secure a 46-35 win. For Brashear, Sydney Slavin, and Shelby Salter were in double figures with 15 and 14 points. Katie Smith scored 8, Stephanie Elsea added 4, Chandi March had 3, and Katie Watson scored 2 points. Grundy County was led by Shelbi Stimpson with 18, Mina Headrick had 11, and Marina Munday scored 6 points.
In other Friday night games, the Novinger girls took consolation by a score of 57-38 over Green City, the Milan boys beat Grundy County 43-38 for 7th place, and Bevier topped Novinger 42-31 for boys' consolation.
On Saturday, the Brashear and Green City boys played for 3rd place. It was anybody's game in the early going, but Green City exploded for 26 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 41-19 halftime lead. Brashear answered with an 18 point 3rd quarter to pull within 7 points, but ultimately lost momentum as Green City held on for a 63-48 win. Brashear's Anthony Ambrosia led all scorers with 25 points. Adam Songer added 9, Matt Thomas had 6, Jay Scudder had 4, and Cody Snelling and Zach Reeves scored 2 points each. For Green City, Garrett King scored 20 points, Dylan Brundage had 17, Christopher Hoerrmann added 9, Jacob Hubbard had 8, Brandon Pearson had 3, and Cody Johnson, Matt Riddle, and Cody Holt scored 2 points each.
Also, on Saturday, the LaPlata girls took 3rd place with a 64-36 win over Bevier. The Scotland County girls and Milan girls played a hotly contested game with Scotland County prevailing to take 1st place by a score of 58-56. In the boys' championship game, Scotland County had a 2nd half lead but were unable to hold off a late charge that allowed LaPlata to take the 1st place title by a score of 51-37.
