Brashear Basball at Linn County March 30, 2010
The Tigers fall to Linn County in their season opener.
The early innings of Tuesday night's game was a story of missed opportunities for Brashear. Nick Thomas got things going in the top of the first inning with a one out single, then took 2nd base on a passed ball. Matt Thomas followed that with a double, but Nick Thomas was thrown out at the plate trying to score from 2nd. The Tiger's next missed opportunity was in the 3rd when Jay Scudder led off with a double, but the inning ended with Scudder stranded at third. The Tigers finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the 4th as a Cody Snelling single and a Hayden Coin double led to a 2-0 Tiger lead. Linn County answered with a run in the bottom of the inning and it looked like Brashear would hang on for a 2-1 win until the bottom of the 7th when a walk, and a string of 4 errors allowed Linn County to rally for a 3-2 win. For Brashear, Matt Thomas, Hayden Coin, and Jay Scudder all had doubles and Nick Thomas, Cody Snelling, and Daniel Smith each singled. Matt Thomas took the loss for Brashear striking out 14 batters and limiting Linn County to 2 hits.
In the JV contest, Brashear defeated Linn County 4-2. In a sidenote, Abdu Mohammed, Brashear's exchange student from Ethiopia, played his first ever baseball game drawing a pair of walks, one of which was a bases-loaded walk earning him his first RBI.
