Brashear JH Basketball at Linn County November 4, 2010
Thursday night's girls' game was a defensive battle as Brashear led 2-0 after 1 quarter with the host Lady Mustangs leading 7-6 at halftime. Brashear had managed to take a 10-9 lead after 3 quarters, but Linn County outscored Brashear 7-2 in the final quarter to win 16-12. For Brashear, Ashley Moncrief and Skylar Housman scored 4 points each, and Nikki Moncrief and Allison Thompson scored 2 points each. Lauren Russell scored 5 points for Linn County, Emily Stewart and Aletha Grismore added 4 each, and Mindy Hayes scored 3 points.
In the boys' contest, the two teams were evenly matched in the 1st quarter with Linn County holding a slim 8-6 lead, but the host Mustangs outscored Brashear 13-3 in the 2nd quarter to take a 21-9 halftime lead. Linn County led 26-13 after 3 quarters but Brashear closed to within 5 in the 4th quarter before Linn County put the game away 39-28. Marcus Jefferson led Brashear scorers with 9 points, Jacob Reeves added 7, Luke Morrow and Gabe Thomas had 4 each, and Brody Henrichs and Chance Hill scored 2 points each. For Linn County, Derek Wilson scored 10 points, Logan Brinkley and Blake Burkholder had 8 each, Tristen Creason, Elisha Waltz, and Dylan Harvey had 3 each, and Anthony McCollum and Jacob Wood scored 2 points each.
The girls also played a 2-quarter B game. Brashear jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, but fell to Linn County 12-6. Mandy Taylor had 4 points for Brashear and Audrey DeBie added 2 points. Brittane Hubbard scored 6 for Linn County, Taylor Coram had 4, and MaKayla Hudson scored 2 points.
