Marion County at Brashear December 20, 2010
Despite the Marion County Lady Mustangs getting the tip, Brashear scored first in a non-conference basketball double-header played in Brashear. Marion County went to work and got that bucket back plus several more to take a 19-9 lead after 1 quarter and a 37-15 lead at halftime. Brashear had their best offensive quarter in the 3rd scoring 11 points, but Marion County answered with 16 on their way to a 60-30 win. Meredith Thomas had 9 points for Brashear, Shelby Salter added 7, Abby McKim had 6, Sydney Slavin had 4, and Stephanie Elsea and Alexa Acton scored 2 points each. Marion County had 2 players in double figures. Randi Lee Plunkett scored 22 points, and Jessica Redd had 20, Devan Johnson added 8, Kaelyn Spratt had 7, Kim Shuck had 2, and Megan Smith scored 1 point.
In the boys' game, Marion County quickly took charge scoring 3 buckets in the 1st 40 seconds while going on a 20-0 run to start the game. Brashear trailed 26-8 after the 1st quarter and despite closing to within 15 at one point after the initial 20-0 start, the Tigers were still down 37-17 at halftime. The start of the 2nd half saw the same cast of characters and the same story line as the start of the 1st half. Marion County outscored Brashear 15-3 in the 3rd quarter to go up 52-20 ending any chance of a Tiger comeback. The final score was 65-31. One high note for Brashear was the offensive production off the bench accounting for 19 out of Brashear's 31 points. Joe Clarkson led the Brashear scoring with 8 points, Adam Songer had 5, Cody Snelling and Nick Thomas had 4 each, Zach Reeves had 3, Jay Scudder, Joseph Woods, and Hayden Housman had 2 each, and Dillon Redding scored 1 point. For Marion County, Dustin Bock scored 16 points, J.J. Chatfield had 11, Clay Pollard had 9, Kason Spratt and Luke Stratton had 8 each, Kalin Robbearts added 7, and Ryan Tucker and Logan Krigbaum scored 3 points each.
Brashear will back in action December 27 at the NCMC Holiday Hoops where the girls will play Stet and the boys will play Grundy County.
