Schuyler County Basketball at Brashear January 7, 2011
The visiting Rams sweep a pair of non-conference games from the Tigers.
The Brashear girls got off to a quick start Friday night running up a 15-10 lead after one quarter of play. Both teams had come out pressing hard from the beginning of the game and Schuyler started to get the upper hand in the 2nd quarter taking a 33-30 lead unto the halftime break. During the 3rd quarter, Schuyler started to slowly expand their lead and led 48-38 at the end of the quarter and won by a final score of 66-53. Meredith Thomas and Stephanie Elsea were both in double figures for Brashear with 20 and 13 points, Shelby Salter and Abby McKim had 6 each, Sydney Slavin had 5 and Katie Smith scored 3 points. Schuyler County was led by Lesa Ford with 25 points, Caley Sessions added 15, Alyssa Buckallew and Cecily Reese scored 6 each, Whitney McElhinney and Kourtney Nelson had 5 each, and Jacqueline Bushnell and Mallory Haley scored 2 points each.
The Brashear boys also took the early lead of 12-10 after the first quarter and turned up the heat to take a 30-23 halftime lead. Schuyler County made some defensive adjustments and pressured Brashear into numerous turnovers in the 3rd quarter. The Rams converted the turnovers into fast break points and outscored Brashear 21-4 to take a 44-34 lead after three quarters of play. Brashear adjusted in the 4th, but couldn't close the gap and Schuyler County took the game 58-47. Nick Thomas scored 14 points for Brashear, Jay Scudder added 8, Hayden Housman had 6, Taren Treasure and Joe Clarkson had 5 each, Adam Songer score 4, Cody Snelling had 3, and Zach Reeves scored 2 points. For the Rams, Tim Gorman scored 20 points, Aaron Fowler had 17, Troy Tallman scored 9, Tyler Ritchey had 7, Jordan Wheeler had 4, and Tad Steen scored 1 point.
