Brashear Tournament Wednesday February 9, 2011

In Wednesday's consolation semi-finals, the Macon County girls downed Kirksville JV 65-39, and the Knox County boys defeated Macon County 75-36. In the championship semi-finals, the Marion County girls advanced with a 64-25 win over Brashear, and the Marion County boys also picked up a 50-37 win over Brashear.

The Brashear girls held the state-ranked Marion County Lady Mustangs to a 13-6 lead after one quarter of play, but Marion County exploded for 27 points in the 2nd quarter to lead 40-6 at halftime. Marion County extended their lead to 62-14 after 3 quarters and coasted to a 64-25 win. Shelby Salter scored 13 points for Brashear, Meredith Thomas added 5, Stephanie Elsea had 3, and Miranda Creason and Abby McKim scored 2 points each. Devan Johnson and Jessica Redd were in double figures for Marion County with 21 and 18 points respectively, Kaelyn Spratt had 9, Randi Lee Plunkett and Rachelle Sharpe had 6 each, and Kim Shuck scored 4 points.

The Marion County boys took an early lead, but Brashear stayed close until a late scoring flurry put the Mustangs up 17-6 at the end of the first quarter. Marion County extended their lead to 31-16 at halftime, and led 40-21 after 3 quarters. Brashear made a run in the 4th quarter, pulling within 8, but Marion County held off the late charge and won 50-37. For Brashear, Hayden Housman scored 13 points, Nick Thomas chipped in 7, Adam Songer had 5, Joseph Woods had 4, and Taren Treasure, Zach Reeves, Jay Scudder, and Joe Clarkson scored 2 points each. Dustin Bock lead Marion County with 11 points, Kason Spratt, Dalton Bainter, and Clay Pollard had 8 each, Luke Stratton and JJ Chatfield had 6 each, and Reed Plunkett scored 3 points.
