Knox County Basketball at Brashear February 19, 2011
Knox County visited Brashear Saturday afternoon for a pair of make up games due to earlier bad weather. In the girls game, both teams played tough defense in the 1st quarter with Knox County scoring 9 points and Brashear scoring 4. The Lady Eagles got their scoring on track in the 2nd quarter and extended their lead to 25-8 at halftime. Brashear almost matched the Lady Eagles bucket for bucket in the 3rd and trailed 39-20 after 3 quarters before Knox County cruised to a 54-27 win. For Brashear, Meredith Thomas scored 10 points, Shelby Salter had 6, Abby McKim had 5, Stephanie Elsea had 4, and Sydney Slavin scored 2 points. Knox County scoring was led by Stacey Leckbee with 13 points, Kathleen Hinkle had 10, Amber Ausmus added 9, Hannah Strange had 7, Hannah Dale, Taylor Lincoln, and Sarah Dooley had 3 each, and McKaiya Miller, Kelsey Bryant, and Devin Gudehus scored 2 points each.
Brashear seniors Jay Scudder and Adam Songer teamed up to get the Tigers an early 8-4 lead over Knox County. Scudder drained a baseline jumper to start the game, then got a putback basket on the next possession to put Brashear up 4-2. Songer added a pair of free throws, then Scudder added another bucket before Knox County stepped up their defensive pressure forcing Tiger turnovers and allowing the Eagles to take a 14-11 lead after the first quarter. Brashear continued to be plagued by turnovers in the 2nd quarter and Knox County quickly built a 43-24 lead at halftime. Knox County led 57-34 after 3 quarters and won 72-52. Taren Treasure scored 12 points for Brashear, Zach Reeves chipped in 10, Hayden Housman had 9, Joseph Woods and Jay Scudder scored 6 each, Nick Thomas had 5, and Adam Songer and Joe Clarkson scored 2 points each. For Knox County, Royce Poore scored 20 points, Justin Reeves had 19, Cole Sutton had 10, Leighton McCabe and Brock Couch had 7 each, Jesse Miller had 4, Jaron Holman had 3, and Brady Morton scored 2 points.
