Brashear Goes One Up and One Down in First Round of Districts
The Brashear Lady Tigers faced number 3 seed Madison Saturday in Class 1 District 11 district play. Madison took a 14-7 lead after one quarter and slowly increased their lead to 23-12 by halftime. By the end of the third quarter, the Lady Tigers were down 37-20, but never gave up, outscoring Madison 16-14 in the final quarter. Madison advanced to the semi-final round with the 53-34 win. Brashear was led by Stephanie Elsea with 10 points, Meredith Thomas had 9, Abby McKim had 6, Shelby Salter had 5, and Sydney Slavin scored 4 points. For Madison, Erica Keeling scored 19 points, Taylor Salmons added 18, Samantha Brucker and Staci Harlow had 6 each, Shebi Danner had 3, and Hannah Grimsley scored 1 point.
The Brashear boys also faced the third seeded Madison boys. The Tigers got on the board first and established a 13-10 lead after the 1st quarter. By halftime, Brashear extended their lead to 25-18 and led 38-23 after 3 quarters. Madison mounted a furious comeback in the 4th quarter, pulling within 5 points before Brashear put the game away 56-43 to advance to Wednesday's semi-finals. Brashear was lead by Cody Snelling with 26 points, Jay Scudder had a double-double with 10 points and 10 blocked shots, Hayden Housman had 7 points, Adam Songer had 6, Nick Thomas had 3, and Joseph Woods and Taren Treasure scored 2 points each. For Madison, Jacob Youse scored 17 points, Codey Hendren and Allen Koontz had 10 each, and Gavyn Hinton and Blake Hultz scored 3 points each.
