Brashear Falls to Marion County in District Semi-Finals
The Brashear Tigers and Marion County Mustangs met for the 4th time this season Wednesday night in the Madison District semi-finals. Marion County's JJ Chatfield put the Mustangs on the scoreboard first, but Brashear's Jay Scudder quickly answered with a bucket at the other end. As the first quarter progressed, Marion County built a 17-7 lead. Brashear closed the gap to 8 by halftime with Marion County holding a 24-16 lead. Unlike Monday night's game against Madison where Cody Snelling and Jay Scudder provided 24 second half points, Brashear couldn't generate offense in the 3rd quarter and were held to only 3 points with Scudder and Snelling seeing only token playing time on the night. Marion County pushed their lead to 35-19 after 3 quarters before a wild 4th quarter where Marion County scored almost 40% of their points for the game, and Brashear scored almost half of their points. Marion County took the contest by a final score of 56-35 advancing to face LaPlata in the District finals. Joe Clarkson came off the bench, scoring 9 fourth quarter points to lead Brashear, Nick Thomas added 7, Hayden Housman had 6, Taren Treasure had 4, Cody Snelling had 3, Joseph Woods and Jay Scudder scored 2 each, and Adam Songer and Zach Reeves scored 1 point each. For Marion County, Clay Pollard scored 22 points, Dustin Bock had 11, Luke Stratton and JJ Chatfield had 6 each, Logan Krigbaum had 5, Reed Plunkett had 3, Kalin Robearts had 2, and Kason Spratt scored 1 point.
