Novinger Tournament Friday December 2, 2011
The Brashear girls and Green City girls squared off in the consolation game of the Novinger Tournament Friday night. The two teams played a competitive 1st quarter with Green City holding a 14-12 lead at it's conclusion. Green City exploded for 20 points in the 2nd quarter to give them a 34-17 lead going into halftime. Brashear rallied in the 3rd to close the margin to 42-31, but Green City held on to win the consolation game 51-38. Olivia Thompson had 8 points for Brashear, Katie Smith added 6, Miranda Creason had 5, Ashley Moncrief, Meredith Thomas, and Chandi March scored 4 points each, Shelby Salter, Nikki Moncrief, and Allison Thompson had 2 each, and Katie Sweet scored 1 point. For Green City, Emily Sorenson scored 16 points, Cheyanne Heaton had 11, Maren Hatcher added 9 points, Alicia Albrecht had 5, Makenzie Couch and Raeann Kilgore had 4 each, and Marissa LaFaver scored 2 points.
The boys' 7th place game featured Brashear and Bevier. Bevier used a stifling press and some red-hot perimeter shooting to build a 43-31 lead at halftime. Brashear started to chip away at the Bevier lead in the 2nd half, but still trailed 53-44 after three quarters of play. In the final minute, Brashear used a Hayden Housman 3-pointer, a Taren Treasure 3-pointer, and a Joe Clarkson 2-pointer to close to within 1 point, but Bevier held on for a 63-61 win. Brashear's Hayden Housman topped all scorers with 22 points, Taren Treasure added 15, Joe Clarkson had 14, TJ Harrelson had 6, and Joseph Woods and Jacob Reeves scored 2 points each. For Bevier, Brett Peukert scored 17 points, McKenzey Pipes had 16, Jesse Ashenfelter had 13, Aaron Peter had 9, Jean Fiquet had 4, Andrew Peter had 3, and Seth Shurvington scored 2 points.
In other Friday night games, the Milan boys defeated Atlanta 63-43 in the consolation game and the Novinger girls took the 7th place game with a 57-30 win over Atlanta.
